This event is open to the community! Everyone is invited to hear stories of those who are willing to share their recovery journey. Please join us for great food and and supportive community interaction. A positive experience for us to enjoy TOGETHER!

Say It Out Loud is a storytelling event dedicated to individuals who are willing to share their experiences of recovery. Whether your journey is new or has spanned decades, we invite you to share your story with others. We value your insights, support you, and celebrate your achievements. By learning from your experiences, we become a stronger community.

Recovery can encompass various aspects. As this event is funded by the National Opioid Settlement Funds Grant, we focus on recovery from substance use and alcohol use, as well as family recovery. Family recovery involves overcoming the attitudes and behaviors that can hinder the recovery of loved ones. If you’re a family member on your own recovery journey, striving to become a better person in your relationship with a loved one who uses substances, this space is for you too.

Here are the event details:
- There will be seven speakers.
- Each speaker will have seven minutes to share their story.
- If you’d like some coaching, our team will work with you to prepare.

If you’re interested in participating, please reach out to Katie Butler or Jill Wallace at (907) 942-5905 or email [email protected].

P.S. This is a free event, and dinner will be catered by Taradise and Co.!

Speakers…what to expect:
You’ll have seven minutes (or longer if you need it!) to tell us about your recovery journey. This is YOUR story. You can tell it YOUR way. You can expect to be heard in a JUDGMENT-FREE ENVIRONMENT. Our purpose at Kodiak Recovers Together is to spread awareness, strengthen community support for recovery, and remove the stigma surrounding substance use, recovery, and mental health.

Audience…what to expect:
You will hear honesty and vulnerability. You may hear things that make you uncomfortable. We are here to learn from one another and be a source of ongoing support for our community friends and families in recovery. We ask for your undivided attention and reverence for the courage these stories represent.

Everyone…what to expect:
A fabulous dinner catered by Taradise and Co.! Everyone will get to enjoy a wonderful meal prepared by the lovely, skilled Tara Olson! You will enjoy an evening of connecting with others in a meaningful way. Bring kindness, compassion, and empathy with you to this event. Bring a heart that is open to gaining more understanding.

This is our FINAL presentation in our year-long Lunch & Learn series, and it’s a big one you will not want to miss! Guest speakers from the Public Defender Agency will discuss Good Samaritan Laws and Immunity, there will be free Narcan (Naloxone) training provided by the State of Alaska Kodiak Public Health. Finally, we want to engage you in some discussion about next steps for Kodiak Recovers Together and our community efforts to stop the impact of fentanyl and other opioids and substances on our community. Although we plan for 1 hour to accommodate your lunch break, we might go long on this one!

When we know more, we can do more to help people in our community reach their full potential. Please join us for lunch on August 28th and learn about addiction and the brain from two perspectives: the impact that substances have on the brain, and why substances are often used to self-medicate some brain conditions. Bring your appetite and your thirst for knowledge but leave your wallet at home as our Lunch and Learn events are always free of charge! Register in advance if you can so we have the right number of lunches available but if you forget to register, come anyway. We promise to feed you!

🎤 ASK IT BASKET –
Tomorrow Night (7/31) at KAMP!
Dinner served at 6:00, meeting starts at 6:30pm

Tomorrow night, we’ll be hosting an “Ask It Basket” discussion featuring a small panel of men and women in recovery. Throughout the evening, we’ll ask honest, real-life questions like:

• What helped you make it to the 30-day mark?
• What was the hardest part of early recovery?
• Do you still need a recovery program after being sober for many years?
• How did you rebuild relationships?
• What advice would you give someone who is thinking about getting sober?

Whether you’re just beginning your journey, supporting someone you love, or have years of sobriety, we invite you to come be part of this encouraging and hope-filled conversation.

Everyone is welcome. Come as you are.

Audrey Coyle you are very loved and you are greatly missed!

Our Lunch and Learn THIS FRIDAY (June 26th) will focus on the influence of family support and peer support. This kind of support does not require a degree or certification…it only requires love, compassion, empathy, and respect. Qualities we may all have that can be vital to providing just the right support to help our family members, friends, and neighbors find their path to recovery. In the graphic below, pay particular attention to the “Effectiveness in getting the person into treatment” section. The approaches we will be discussing on Friday are evidence-based. Scientific research supports the positive impact that human interaction by those closest to people who use substances can change the course of their lives. We hope to see you on Friday! Come for the free lunch…stay for the learning!
