This morning we continued our series, The Promise, tracing the coming Christ through the Old Testament.
Week 5: The Son of Man
Daniel 7:9 to 14
For eight verses Daniel watches beasts rise out of the sea, the great empires of the world. Then the scene changes. Nothing roars. The Ancient of Days takes His seat, the court sits, and the books are opened. Nothing done to you has gone unrecorded, and every beast falls the moment God says so.
Then Daniel sees "one like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven." After the lion, the bear, and the leopard comes someone who looks like us, yet He arrives the way only God arrives. Every nation serves Him, and heaven calls it right.
Son of Man was Jesus' favorite name for Himself. To be the Son of Man, the Son of God became a man. The One Daniel saw riding the clouds was laid in a feeding trough.
The beasts consume people to make themselves great. Jesus poured Himself out to make people free. "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
