Rescuing Health

Rescuing Health Providing individuals with access to health care procedures and treatments they may otherwise be una Each application is reviewed by the board.

Rescuing Health will financially aid individuals who do not qualify for any other type of public or private healthcare assistance in obtaining specific health treatments or surgeries. We will seek collaborators rather than competitors within the healthcare/philanthropic arena of East Tennessee. The board looks around the region for other agencies that might be able to help the applicant. If there

is no other help source, the board may decide to take on the applicant (1). The application goes through a panel of volunteer physicians who direct the patient to the most appropriate service. Rescuing Health field partners advocate for the patient and give support all the way through the recovery period. In 2015, Rescuing Health will be fund-raising for applicant-specific needs as well as to build and endowment. The endowment is to be used to treat cases of emergency, when there is no time to wait for individual-specific fund raising. Rescuing Health also seeks to be a clearinghouse for information and communication between charitable/philanthropic health-care initiatives both public and private in the Knoxville area and seeks to partner with already existing Healthcare groups both public and private, in order to be a hub of communication and information between these disparate entities in order to better serve those who are disenfranchised.

1.Rescuing Health will only finance those cases that the board and the volunteer consulting physicians deem a health issue. The board reserves the right to turn away applicants. Rescuing Health does not discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation or religious belief.

We thank all of you who have supported the community in TN by donating to those who needed most. We also thank the community members who applied for assistance with Rescuing Health and we are happy that we could help.

We have been fortunate over the years to be able to provide assistance to a wide range of people across the Knoxville. TN regional area. Here is just one of their stories.

Stefan works full time in the health care field, but most of his paycheck goes toward paying the bills for his family since his husband is on a fixed income. Stefan first got his temporary set of dentures in 2019 and was told by his dentist that he was only supposed to wear his temporary set for between six months to a year while his mouth healed from his dental surgery. Stefan’s insurance unfortunately only covered a small portion of the costs of the permanent set of dentures, and because of his financial responsibilities to his family, which they often struggle to meet, for nearly two years he was unable to afford his much-needed permanent set. Having a new permanent set of dentures fit his mouth much better, helped heal the pain and discomfort he was in, and allowed him to resume normal eating.

We have been fortunate over the years to be able to provide assistance to a wide range of people across the regional area. Here is just one of their stories.

John needed help with his transportation costs, particularly to buy gasoline to be able to go to his doctor’s appointments after his second kidney transplant at age 75. The cost associated with his first transplant had depleted all his financial resources, which he had built over 52 years of working as The Bell Captain and Tour Director at the Abingdon Martha Washington Inn in VA. With the funds raised by Rescuing Health on his behalf, his family was able to drive him to his checkups at UT Medical Center.

We have been fortunate over the years to be able to provide assistance to a wide range of people across the Knoxville, TN regional area. Here is just one of their stories.

Steve needed financial help with medical supplies, as he had a tracheostomy and severe disability after an accidental overdose in 2018. Steve was a chef who had been suffering from depression. His wife, a nurse, quit his job to care for him. He was unable to speak, move and feed himself. With the loss of both incomes and the slowness of Medicaid enrollment, the family of 6 was about to be evicted. With the financial and logistical help from Rescuing Help, the Hendricks family was able to move into a Section 8 Rental and avoided homelessness.
