is a not-for-profit dedicated to the preservation of Old Knox County Courthouse, the Old Jail, the Sanburn Log Cabin, Hall of Records, Newman School House and the Knox County Museum, all in Knoxville, Illinois.

🏛️ Love local history? Help us preserve it!

For more than 70 years, Knox County Historical Sites has worked to preserve the buildings, artifacts and stories that connect us to our past. Today, we care for the Old Knox County Courthouse, Jail, Sanburn Log Cabin, Newman School and Knox County Museum... and we’re able to do it thanks to the support of our members, donors and volunteers.

Annual membership is just $20 per person, or you can become a Lifetime Member for $100.

Your membership helps preserve these special places for generations to come AND it also comes with an invitation to one of our favorite traditions of the year!

🍂 Our Annual Meeting & Turkey Dinner is Thursday, October 22, inside the historic Old Knox County Courthouse.

Members gather for a home-cooked turkey dinner with turkey, dressing, potatoes, gravy and rolls provided. Bring a side dish to share, enjoy some good old-fashioned fellowship, and stay for a special program from former Knox County Judge Harry Bulkeley. Members are welcome to bring a guest!

And there’s important work ahead. The Old Courthouse will need a new roof and truss replacement in the coming years, making the continued support of our community more important than ever.

The Scenic Drive is coming up October 3rd and 4th, and October 10th and 11th!! Be sure to put downtown Knoxville on your itinerary.

Not only do we have great food and vendors, but we have FIVE historic sites that will be open to visitors:
The Old Courthouse,
The Old Jail,
Newman Schoolhouse,
Sanburn Log Cabin, and
The Knox County Historical Museum.

We also have a lovely new mural downtown, by Dusty Scott...and new town signs to welcome you in!

Admission is FREE for every historic site, so bring the whole family and experience local history in Knoxville!

"Back to School" used to look a little differently at St. Mary's School for Girls in Knoxville. We were recently sent these photos from the Clermont Historical Society in Florida! They ended up states away, but we're sure glad they made it back home - especially the fabulous interior photos! These are all circa 1890's and available to be seen in person at the Knox County Historical Museum - Open every Sunday now through October from 2 to 4pm (or by appointment, if you have a group you'd like to bring in please reach out and set up a time to take a tour with one of our volunteers!)

Stop in from 2 to 4pm today! The Knox County Historical Museum open Every Sunday now through October, from 2 to 4pm (except Labor Day weekend) or by appointment. You can stroll through our beautiful, air-conditioned museum on the square in Knoxville. We're always adding to our extensive collection of artifacts and relics from Knoxville and Knox County's rich history, so be sure to stop in, even if you've visited before! Too hot to do much today...but it's perfectly cool inside the Knox County Historical Museum!

Stop by from 2 to 4pm on the Square in Knoxville today (and every Sunday through the Scenic Drive in October). Browse our impressive selection of Knox County relics and memorabilia, including the carriage Lincoln rode from Knoxville to Galesburg in to debate Stephen Douglas at Knox College in October of 1858.

It's just one of the many interesting things waiting to be discovered!
