Prison Life Media

Prison Life Media Through documentaries and media, we capture the unseen realities of prison life, humanizing both staff and inmates.

We advocate for transformational innovation, challenge perceptions, and inspire change that leads to safer, stronger communities.

What happens inside a correctional facility matters far beyond the facility itself.

Former Deputy Director Matt Sturm explains it through a simple analogy: if the environment is unhealthy, it becomes much harder to produce healthy outcomes.

When staff are supported, when the culture is healthier, and when inmates are given structure and opportunity, the goal becomes clearer: fewer victims, less crime, and people returning home better prepared to succeed.

This is a major part of what we have been studying during our time in Missouri, and something we look forward to sharing more about when the full documentary is released on our YouTube channel later this summer.

Corrections nurses and med techs serve in a world many people never see.

They show up with skill, patience, and humanity — caring for people in one of the most challenging environments in public service.

To the nurses and med techs working in prisons and correctional facilities: thank you for the work you do every day.

A clear purpose changes how you lead—and how you serve.

For Director Marshall, it comes down to one thing: helping people return with something to offer.

When individuals leave with real skills—carpentry, welding, plumbing, mechanics—they’re not just looking for a second chance.
They’re stepping back in with value.

And that changes everything.

Mentorship doesn’t just shape careers. It shapes how people lead, respond, and show up every day.

Director William K. Marshall III points to something simple but often overlooked: nobody gets there alone.

From early days as a young trooper to leadership today, it was people who stepped in, paid attention, and chose to guide.

That kind of investment doesn’t stay contained. It carries forward into how leaders build teams, support staff, and influence the culture around them.

What someone chooses to pass on matters.

Volunteering inside a correctional facility isn’t what most people expect.

It changes how you see everything.

You walk in with one perspective and leave with another. You see people as people. You understand the environment in a way you can’t from the outside. And that perspective doesn’t stay inside the facility, it follows you back into your community.

For those inside, it matters just as much. A new face. A new conversation. A reminder that there’s more beyond the walls.

If you’re looking for something meaningful to do this Second Chance Month, this is one place to start.

The impact of this work isn’t always immediate, but it lasts.
One person choosing to show up differently can shape someone’s future.

Perspective changes everything.
When young athletes step inside and hear real stories, it sticks.

Conversations like these shape decisions, futures, and lives.

A cold jump with a bigger meaning behind it.
Donations, big or small, help create opportunities for athletes and their families.

Not every problem comes with instructions.
The ones who step up, take ownership, and find a solution are the ones who grow into leadership.
