Big Day for DeAndre
This week was one of those weeks where God just showed off. And I am so grateful He allowed me to be a part of it.
When I picked up DeAndre to head to the DMV to get his license reinstated, we were still waiting on the official waiver from the judge. Because of the storm the night before, the legal rep helping us was delayed getting to work — which meant she was able to go straight to city court and tackle this head-on first thing that morning. God’s timing.
Meanwhile, DeAndre and I walked into the Bearden DMV just minutes after they opened. No line. Our number was called almost immediately. Normally that’s a blessing. But when you’re waiting on paperwork from a judge, you’d prefer a little buffer.
The clerk helping us was the sweetest. We explained what was going on. She smiled and said, “No problem.” She started the process and told us to go have a seat and just come back up when the paperwork came through.
So we sat. We talked. I learned more about his life and his family and friends while we waited. At one point he looked slightly concerned, and I reminded him, “God’s got this. He is always on time — not a minute sooner.” He said another quiet prayer.
About 20 minutes later, we got word the state had the waiver and he was officially cleared.
Originally, he owed $784 in citations plus an additional $515 in reinstatement fees. And the night before, I had specifically asked God to make sure it was all cleared if possible.
He did.
While the judge had waived the citation fees, one of the generous women in our private group messaged me and said if anything remained, she wanted to cover it. She told me there are so many negative things in this world she feels powerless to change. But if she could step into one situation and make a real difference, it would bless her.
God used her generosity and multiplied it. It blessed her. It blessed DeAndre. It blessed his son. It will bless his future spouse and children. And it blessed me.
So we walked out of the DMV with his license reinstated.
But that wasn’t even the end of the story.
The reason getting his license that day mattered so much was because something else was waiting at the county clerk’s office — a car from Wheels Knoxville.
When Wheels Knoxville takes ownership of a donated vehicle, they have to wait for the state to issue a new title before they can sign it over to the recipient. Normally, it takes about two weeks.
Not this time.
Weeks went by. They waited and waited. And do you know when that title finally came in? The same week DeAndre was meeting with the judge. The same week his fees were waived. Not before we needed it. Not after. Right in God’s perfect timing.
We walked into the county clerk’s office. No line. Another incredibly kind clerk who explained everything clearly. It took no time at all.
And then DeAndre drove away in a beautiful, new-to-him Honda Element — complete with a booster seat already in the back for his little boy.
Reliable transportation isn’t just about getting from Point A to Point B. It means steady work. It means showing up. It means stability. It means opportunity. It can change someone’s family tree.
I am so grateful God has allowed me to be part of DeAndre’s story. And I am equally grateful He has allowed Steve, Alan, and Natalie from Wheels Knoxville to partner with us. They aren’t just changing lives — they are creating ripple effects that will impact generations.
God is always on time. And this week, He made that abundantly clear.
