We expect 50,000 lbs of food in the coming weeks to be distributed through the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive on Saturday, May 9.
For over 30 years, letter carriers have organized this national event to combat local food insecurity. This year, the Smoky Mountain Branch 419 will collect donations across Knoxville and surrounding areas, including Oak Ridge, Maryville, Kingston, Harriman, Lenoir City, Jefferson City, and Newport.
How to Participate
Fill the Bag: Place non-perishable food donations in the provided bags (or any bag) by your mailbox.
The Heavy Lifting: Your letter carrier will collect the donations directly from your home during their route.
Local Impact
Donations are managed by FISH Hospitality Pantries, which sorts and distributes the food to neighbors in need throughout Knox County and surrounding agencies.
"Stamp Out Hunger is a once-a-year opportunity to ‘mail’ food to your neighbors," says Jim Wright, FISH Executive Director.
Beyond providing basic nutrition, this drive allows local pantries to offer a wider variety of choices, building a stronger sense of food security and wellbeing for the tens of thousands in our region currently struggling with hunger. By filling a bag, you help ensure that a "rising tide lifts all boats" in our community.
