Knoxville is a COOL little town! Nestled in south-central Iowa just 40 minutes from Des Moines, we're the Sprint Car Capital of the World, neighbor of Iowa's Largest Lake, Birthplace of the Iowa flag, and home of our own national and international award winning microbrewery and winery: Peace Tree Brewing Company and Nearwood Winery! Our Downtown is also experiencing a revival: last year's Streetsc
ape and Infrastructure project cleared the way for several major building renovations, new business openings and expansions, and upper level housing developments - all big, exciting investments in Knoxville's future! The community recently renovated and reopened our historic Grand Theater, and now it's bringing folks from around the area to catch a movie or stage production seven nights a week for amazingly affordable prices! The Knoxville Performing Arts Center hosts community productions, educational presentations, as well as large national traveling acts throughout the year, and is a state-of-the-art, 700+ seat jewel for our entire region - check out their event calendar and purchase your tickets online today! When there's not a show happening at one of our larger venues, you're bound to find live music at one of our local bars, pubs, or restaurants. We're also pretty good a throwing a street party every now and again ;)
Since 1960, the biggest event to hit Knoxville every year is the Annual Knoxville Nationals! That said, the Knoxville Nationals are the biggest event of ANY year in sprint car racing, and are consistently billed as the crowing achievement for drivers stateside and from across the globe! Tens of thousands of visitors will tell you Knoxville is the trip they look forward to all year long! At the northern edge of town, Lake Red Rock offers a host of recreational and educational opportunities for the boater, kayaker, canoer, bird watcher, or wildlife enthusiast in everyone. Larger, less crowded, and more easily accessible than many other lakes in the area, Red Rock is among the best kept secrets in Iowa! The Red Rock Lake Association even hosts the beautiful (and rapidly growing) Red Rock Balloonfest hot-air balloon display, race, and night glow every summer on the beach! As you're planning your next adventure, we encourage you to pay us a visit and see all that we have to offer, all that we're working toward, and maybe even become a part of our bright future! We hope to see you soon :)
