🎓 Congratulations to our 2026 Karns Lions Club Memorial Scholarship recipient, Caroline Crawford!

As new college freshmen get settled into college life, we want to take a moment to recognize Caroline, a 2026 Karns High School graduate who is beginning her studies at Johnson University.

Caroline was selected for the $1,000 Karns Lions Club Memorial Scholarship based on her strong commitment to serving others and improving her community. Throughout high school, she balanced academics and school activities with an impressive record of community service, volunteering with organizations and ministries serving people throughout our area.

This year’s scholarship was awarded in memory of Denise Keith, a longtime Karns Lion and past president of our club who passed away in November 2025. We think recognizing a young person committed to serving her community is a fitting way to honor Denise and her years of service.

Caroline was away on a mission trip for much of the summer, so although the scholarship was announced at Karns High School’s Senior Awards Day, we were happy to finally recognize her in person and present her scholarship at our last club meeting.

Congratulations, Caroline! We wish you all the best as you begin this next chapter! 🦁💙

The Karns Lions Club joins our East Tennessee family and others around the world in honoring Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s heart for others ran deep, but her spirit of giving ran even deeper. She lived out the very heart of Lionism—giving selflessly of her resources, time, energy, and love to ensure her neighbors were lifted up and cared for. She poured her soul into making our days brighter and the world a better place.

Her life was a masterclass in what it means to serve others. We are better for having shared this corner of the world with her.

Rest easy, Dolly. Thank you for the music, the generosity, and for showing the world East Tennessee at its very best.

Due to severe weather, the Karns Lions Club dinner business meeting for tonight, Monday August 17, 2026, has been cancelled.

Due to Labor Day, our next meeting will be Monday Sept 21, 2026 at 6:30pm at the Karns Lions Community Park Memorial Pavilion.

🥵☀️ It’s HOT out there! With “feels like” temperatures reaching 105° or higher, we’re asking families to take extra precautions when visiting the Karns Lions All-Inclusive Playground.

Extreme heat can make playground equipment and turf dangerously hot—and children can overheat quickly.

🛝 Check before they play. Touch slides, swings, turf and other surfaces before letting children use them. If they’re too hot for your hand, they’re too hot for little hands and feet.

👟 Keep shoes on. Hot turf and playground surfaces can cause painful burns, especially on bare feet.

💧 Hydrate early and often. Don’t wait until kids say they’re thirsty.

🌳 Take frequent shade breaks. Encourage kids to stop, cool down and rest—even if they’re having fun.

⏰ Keep playtime short. On days this hot, consider saving playground time for early morning or later in the evening—or choosing an indoor activity instead.

⚠️ Watch for overheating. Headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness, unusual tiredness or confusion are signs it’s time to stop playing and cool down immediately.

When the heat index reaches 105°+, there’s no need to tough it out. Sometimes the safest playground choice is coming back another day or time. 💙

One of our favorite traditions every summer. ❤️

Each Monday, we're honored to host Knoxville Challenger Sports for an inclusive swim night at the Karns Lions Pool. The laughter, excitement, hugs, and smiles make this one of the highlights of our summer.

We recently celebrated another great season together with an end of season pizza party, thanks to the generosity of Pizza Hoss in KARNS. They owners donated 24 regular pizzas and 4 gluten-free pizzas, came in on their day off to make them, and personally delivered them to the pool.

To every Challenger athlete and family, we thank you for sharing your summer with us. You bring so much joy to our pool, and we already can't wait to see you again next year. 💙

As Parks and Recreation Month comes to a close, we'd like to recognize two people who make the Karns Lions Community Park a better place for everyone.

Meet our newest Karns Lions Club members, Nathan and Kathy Wi******er.

Before they ever joined the club, Nathan and Kathy began bringing their grandchild to our inclusive playground. Seeing a need early this summer, they volunteered to help clean and empty the trash simply because they wanted to help keep it a welcoming place for all who visit.

Today, they volunteer several times a week, and many of our regular playground families know "Mr. Nathan" and "Mrs. Kathy" by name. The kids even love helping them!

The Karns Lions Community Park is maintained 100% by volunteers and Nathan and Kathy are wonderful examples of what it means to serve others and embody the spirit of Lionism.

Thank you, Nathan and Kathy, for helping make our community a better place. 💙🦁

📢 We need your help and the clock is running out! 🎒✏️

Our Back-to-School Supply Drive for the Knoxville Center of the Deaf (KCD) ends THIS SUNDAY August 2, and so far we've received very few donations.

We're asking our community to help us make a difference for local students who are Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing before the school year begins.

KCD asks that all donated items be NEW.

Requested items include:
🎒 Backpacks
📓 Notebooks & Spiral Notebooks
🖍️ Crayons
✏️ Pencils
📦 Pencil Boxes
🥪 Lunch Boxes

📍 Drop off donations at the Karns Lions Pool
•Today (Fri) and tomorrow (Sat): 10 AM–6 PM
• Sunday Aug 2: 1 PM–6 PM

On August 8, the Knoxville Center of the Deaf will host a Back-to-School event at their offices for Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing students in our community (contact them directly for more info on this event). The supplies collected through this drive will help stock that event. Any items not distributed at that event will be donated to the Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville.

Even if you can donate just one backpack, one notebook, or one box of crayons, it will help a student start the school year prepared & confident. If you want to make a CASH donation at the pool, we'll do the shopping for you.

Our Back-to-School Supply Drive benefiting the Knoxville Center of the Deaf continues through August 2, and we'd love your help!

The Knoxville Center of the Deaf supports Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, and DeafDisabled individuals and families throughout 12 East Tennessee counties. Your donation will help students start the school year with the supplies they need to succeed.

Most-needed items include:

The Karns Lions Club and Karns Lions Pool are proud to partner with the Knoxville Center of the Deaf (KCD) for a Back-to-School Supply Drive!

From now through August 2, we're collecting much-needed school supplies to help the Knoxville Center of the Deaf continue supporting Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, and DeafDisabled individuals and families across 12 East Tennessee counties.
