It was an honor to have International Director Mark Mansell tour the Karns Lions Community Park this weekend during the District 12 N Lions Clubs Convention in Knoxville.

So many exciting things going on with the Lions Clubs in East TN.

03/23/2026

It takes a village… and apparently 16 very dedicated volunteers

Last weekend, those volunteers gave 140 hours to clean and repair the Karns Lions Club Playground—keeping it safe and ready for everyone. (And that doesn’t even include the extra behind-the-scenes work prepping for the weekend and working on plumbing!)

This playground is 100% maintained year-round by Karns Lions Club volunteers and donations—no magical cleanup crew, we promise 😉 No tax dollars either.

Even in the winter when attendance is lower and water/restrooms shut off, it costs at least $500 per month to keep it open (trash service and a portable restroom), plus utilities and ongoing supplies/repairs. Summer costs are higher.

🗑️ Friendly reminder: the trash cans work best when trash goes inside them—not on top like a dam blocking the opening. Help us out by cleaning up after your visit! And leave the gravel in the parking lot - it's not a playground toy.

🙌 Want to join the crew that keeps this place going? We’d love your help—through volunteering, donating, or sharing this post.

Reminder - the Karns Lions Playground will be closed today and tomorrow for spring cleaning and maintenance. Please spread the word!

The Karns Lions Playground will be CLOSED for cleaning and maintenance Friday March 20 & Saturday March 21, 2026.

We’ll reopen Sunday March 22.

Have some time or energy to volunteer to keep our park in tip top shape? We need all the help we can get. We will be pressure washing, cleaning restrooms, sweeping/picking up rocks & litter, cleaning and conditioning turf & equipment, scrubbing trash bins,
….and the list goes on.

Please help us spread the word — thank you for your understanding!

🌟 It’s Giving Tuesday! 🌟
Today is a day dedicated to generosity, community, and making a real impact right here at home — and the Karns Lions Club is proud to be part of it.

When you give to the Karns Lions Club, 100% of your donation stays in our community, supporting projects that directly help our neighbors. This year, we have several needs on our list, including:

🔹 New slides for the Karns Lions Pool
🔹 New drum heads for the Karns Lions Playground
🔹 New mallets for the Karns Lions Playground
🔹 New swings for the Karns Lions Playground
🔹 Replace damaged turf at the Karns Lions Playground

Your support also helps us provide:
👓 Funding for local residents in need of new glasses
👶 Vision screening for children
🤝 And many other service projects that make Karns a better place to live

Every donation, big or small, helps us continue serving our community with pride.
Thank you for considering the Karns Lions Club this Giving Tuesday! 💛🦁

🐾 A Special Visit at the Karns Lions Club! 🐾

At tonight’s meeting, we enjoyed welcoming Connie Emmons, Co-Chair for District 12 N Lions Clubs Leader Dogs for the Blind. She brought along Leah, her 19-week-old yellow Lab puppy currently in training to become a Leader Dog—and she stole the show! 💛🐶

Leader Dogs for the Blind is one of the organizations our Club supports every year, just as all District 12-N clubs do. Connie, who has trained several Leader Dogs, shared how the program transforms lives by helping people who are blind or visually impaired move through the world with confidence and independence.

In the videos below, she discusses:
✨ How Leader Dogs for the Blind works
✨ How to donate
✨ How to get involved as a puppy raiser or trainer
✨ Answers to questions from our members

And of course, you’ll catch some very adorable moments of Leah practicing her commands… while battling her irresistible urge to play.

We’re grateful to Connie for her dedication—and for bringing sweet Leah to brighten our evening.

Good news — the Karns Lions Playground is open again!

Thanks so much for your patience while we took a few days to do some cleaning, maintenance, and repairs. Our volunteers put in 100s of hours to keep the playground in good shape, and we couldn’t do it without your support!

Just a friendly reminder — the playground is 100% maintained by volunteers, so we all play a part in keeping it clean and safe. If you ever notice something that needs attention, lend us a hand or please send us a message here or email [email protected].

And one quick heads-up: freezing weather is on the way so restrooms will be locked soon to prevent pipes from freezing. A port-a-potty will be brought in for the winter months.

Thanks again for helping us take care of this special community space! 💛🦁
