The best way to care about the Tennessee River is to know it.

Maybe that starts with a paddle, a walk along the shoreline, a fishing trip, or simply watching it flow through your community.

On World Environment Day, we're celebrating the Tennessee River and the people who help care for it. Their stewardship protects not only a remarkable natural resource but also the experiences, history, and connections that the river makes possible.

Here's to a river that continues to inspire adventure, strengthen communities, and bring people together.

We were honored to join our partners for this dedication ceremony yesterday. But perhaps even more so, we were honored to design the 30-year master plan for this new state park in Tennessee as part of Meigs County's participation in the RiverTowns Program.

The Cherokee Trail Of Tears State Park preserves a place of profound historical significance while creating new opportunities for education, stewardship, and connection to the river. If you don't already know about the history of Blythe Ferry and this place, we encourage you to learn more. Their video below is a great starting point!

We can't wait to see what the future holds, and look forward to seeing Tennessee State Parks bring the master plan to life!

What an incredible day on the RiverLine!

This past Saturday, more than 70 paddlers hit the water for the 2nd Annual Creek to Cove Paddle on beautiful Lake Guntersville, journeying from Langston to Morgan’s Cove. From first-time paddlers to seasoned adventurers, participants of all ages came together to experience the stunning scenery, peaceful waters, and abundant wildlife that make this stretch of the RiverLine so special.

A huge thank you to the Guntersville, Jackson County, and Bridgeport RiverTowns teams, What an incredible day on the RiverLine!

This past Saturday, more than 70 paddlers hit the water for the 2nd Annual Creek to Cove Paddle on beautiful Lake Guntersville, journeying from Langston to Morgan’s Cove. Participants of all ages came together to experience the landscape, peaceful water, and abundant wildlife of this stretch of the RiverLine.

Powered by the leadership of the Guntersville, Jackson County, and Bridgeport RiverTowns teams, the event connected people to the landscapes, wildlife, and communities that make this section of the Tennessee River its own. Support from local partners–especially Jackson County Tourism and Explore Lake Guntersville–and several RiverLine kayak fleets from across the region helped make the experience possible.

Events like this are about more than a day on the water. They help strengthen connections between people and place, celebrate the natural and cultural resources of the Tennessee River Valley, and showcase how communities can work together to expand access to outdoor recreation along the Tennessee River.

Thanks to everyone who participated and the many partners who made it happen!

Calling Paducah, KY! Help improve the river's health by participating in this cleanup event!

🌊 Paducah’s riverfront needs volunteers!

On Saturday, June 6, we’re inviting the community to help clean up litter along the downtown riverfront during the Four Rivers Clean Sweep!

This is a simple, hands-on way to take pride in our river city and care for the waterways that shape Paducah’s history, economy and everyday life.

Meet at the River Discovery Center, grab coffee and donuts, then head out with other volunteers to help make a visible difference along the riverfront.

From volunteer… to paddler… to Program Manager.

As we celebrate five years of Tennessee RiverLine, we’re celebrating the people whose passion and commitment continue moving this vision forward — including TJ, our newest staff member.

Before joining the Tennessee RiverLine team as Program Manager for Northern Alabama last fall, TJ was already deeply connected to the mission through his involvement with The Shoals Local Leadership Team and his passion for experiencing the river firsthand. He paddled the entire 652-mile reach of the Tennessee River — an experience that deepened his connection to the communities, landscapes, and people that make this river so special.

Today, TJ helps support RiverTowns communities across Northern Alabama as they strengthen connections to the river through recreation, stewardship, and community engagement. His journey reflects what Tennessee RiverLine is all about: local leadership, shared experiences, and the power of people investing in their communities and the river they call home.

We’re proud to celebrate TJ and share this recent feature from SoulGrown Alabama highlighting his incredible journey along the Tennessee River.
