Youth Transitions, Inc.

is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to training and employing individuals with disabilities for employment opportunities in the food service industry. We prepare clients for the many jobs available in the food service industry. We offer a 12-week training program equipping students with the skills necessary to acquire and retain employment in the industry. Program
The culinary training program co

nsists of Six Modules, over the 12-week period. The training modules allow new students to begin the program at any time. Upon completion of training, students are equipped to work in entry-level jobs in the industry. Students not completing the training will compete for jobs, but may experience lower starting wages. Eligibility
New students must be at least 16 years old. Students must be able to lift thirty pounds, able to see twenty feet, and stand for two hours. There is no age limit to our program. Service Supports
Youth Transitions offers employment supports in several areas.
1. Resume and cover letter design are prepared by week nine of training.
2. Job coaching is offered as students are placed in employment.
3. Students may participate in continued training through on-line video classes offered through the Youth Transitions website.
4. Students seeking to pursue Post Secondary studies in culinary arts of food service management, will receive additional supports during and after training.

The Youth Transitions training model prepares youth and young adults to compete fr a range of employment opportunities in the food service industry. Attendees will explore employment outcomes for two deaf students over a ten-year period. Attendees will review the training methods as well as placement and job retention processes. Finally, attendees will address the impact on the family units of each student.

Chris Harper is president of Youth Transitions, Inc. of Crofton, Maryland. For over twelve years he has directed the training and development of youth and young adults with disabilities for employment opportunities in the food-service industry. Chris has expertise in assisting youth in vocational skills and career development.
