Tennessee Valley Players Tennessee Valley Players is a not-for-profit community theatre group whose mission is to provide meaningful opportunities for performers and audiences.

For at least 45 years, TVP has specialized in plays and shows for the East Tennessee area. Tennessee Valley Players is a 501c3, not-for-profit, community theatre group incorporated in the state of Tennessee. For the last 30+ years, the players have produced such shows as “West Side Story”, “South Pacific”, “Of Thee I Sing”, “Girl Crazy”, “Babes In Toyland”, “Annie”, “Showboat”, “Nunsense”, “Lady B

e Good”, and “Strike Up the Band” and many others. The purpose or purposes of Tennessee Valley Players shall be "the encouragement, promotion, production and sponsorship of community theatrical productions, and generally to do all things incident to these purposes." This shall include uniting and educating persons in the Knoxville area with a common interest in theatre and to promote and encourage the development and presentation of theatre through public performances. The mission of the Tennessee Valley Players is to produce quality live theatrical entertainment for and by the Knoxville community and its surrounding areas. We strive to create a welcoming and positive atmosphere that promotes creative expression and artistic development for all involved.

MEET THE CREW 🎲 Roman Vance (Deck Crew) is a Pellissippi State student, having done two other shows with the Tennessee Valley Players (Oklahoma! and 9 to 5 The Musical). They have not done a show in a year and are excited to get back into the game. They did theatre tech in high school and are hoping to continue doing tech for many shows in the future.

MEET THE CREW 🎲 Jocy Howard (Properties Master and Tech Crew Chief) is excited to be working on their fourth show with the Tennessee Valley Players, previously working on Oklahoma! (Props Master/Tech Crew Chief), 9 to 5 The Musical (Stage Manager), and Beauty and the Beast (Assistant Stage Manager). She also works with The Palace Players and Oak Ridge Playhouse. Howard is a junior at East Tennessee State University, majoring in theatre with a concentration in design and production. They will be working in stage management for two of ETSU’s mainstage productions next school year. Outside of theatre, Howard serves with ETSU’s Preview & Orientation Leaders Organization, Student Government Association, Dancing with the Bucs, and East Tennessee Belles Soprano-Alto Choir. She is also an avid line dancer and swing dancer.

MEET THE BAND 🎲 Daniel Shifflett (Sound Engineer/Bass) is a versatile double bassist and electric bassist with extensive experience across classical, country, rock, and musical theatre performance. He also performed with the national touring production of Wicked at the Tennessee Theatre. This is his twelfth consecutive season with the Tennessee Valley Players. An active educator and clinician, Mr. Shifflett teaches both electric bass and double bass while maintaining a regular performance schedule with various artists. He also serves as principal double bass for the Oak Ridge Symphony and Symphony of the Mountains. Mr. Shifflett is an experienced production and sound engineer in the audiovisual industry. His technical work has included collaborations with Reba McEntire and major events such as the Big Ears Festival. He currently serves as Technical Director at Concord United Methodist Church.

MEET THE BAND 🎲 Eli Henry (Percussionist) is a percussionist residing in Knoxville. He has played percussion for many productions, including Shrek the Musical, Urinetown, Oliver!, Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, and has performed with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. Henry is very excited to return to TVP for this production of Guys and Dolls. He has attended the NYU Broadway Percussion Seminar, and received his bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Tennessee. He would like to thank his family and friends for all of their support.

MEET THE BAND 🎲 Dr. Christy Lee (Show Accompanist) continues to lead a diverse career as a collaborative pianist, chamber musician, vocal coach, conductor, and educator. Dr. Lee has worked as pianist, coach, and assistant conductor at Opera Memphis, Chattanooga Opera, Pensacola Opera, Cleveland Opera, Knoxville Opera, Crested Butte Music Festival, Lake Placid International Voice Seminar, Pine Mountain Music Festival, Lyric Opera Cleveland, and Dorian Opera Theatre. As an active member of the American Choral Director’s Association, she serves regularly as a collaborative pianist at national and district conferences as well as with honor choirs throughout North America and the Caribbean. In May of 2012 she had the pleasure of being a translator and vocal coach for the inaugural US/Cuba Choral Summit in Havana, Cuba, and she was as an Executive Leader for America Cantat 2016 in The Bahamas. For six years Lee was on the faculty of the College of The Bahamas where she was a founding member of C Force, the premiere chamber group of the College of The Bahamas. She holds degrees from Florida State University, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and the University of Alabama. She is now Director of Music and Liturgy at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Alcoa, where she leads several choral groups including a bilingual choir. This is her fourth summer appearing with Tennessee Valley Players.

MEET THE BAND 🎲 Andrea Markowitz Gantte (Show Accompanist) is a Lecturer of Music in the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music at the University of Tennessee. She is a founding member and co-director of Summit Choral Collective, a Knoxville-based community choir. Gantte arranges music for contemporary choral ensembles and performs as a collaborative pianist at UTK, St. Mark UMC, Tennessee Valley Players, and many schools and organizations across East Tennessee. She previously served as Professor of Music at Walters State Community College and Director of Choral Activities at Seymour High School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance and a master’s degree in music education from UTK where she was a member of the UT Chamber Singers. She is excited to return to play for her fourth TVP production!
