Treasures from the Sea

Treasures from the Sea We educate children on marine life and the effects pollution has on our waters and the life within. Our presentations are available at no expense to you.

We are a nonprofit organization and we want to travel to your facility. Our main goal is to educate youth on the importance of marine sustainability and aquatic life. Mollusks are our focus, specifically those that live within our oceans. If we teach our children while they're young about the dangers of littering and pollution, we can look forward to a cleaner world in the future. Please message us directly if you'd like to discuss our program. We hope to hear from you soon!

“Triplofusus giganteus”, or the Florida horse conch, is a sizable predatory sea snail recognized as Florida's official state shell. It holds the title of the largest snail in the United States and the second-largest in the world, with shells that can grow up to 24 inches (60 cm) long. This carnivorous mollusk primarily feeds on invertebrates such as clams and whelks, utilizing its strong foot to capture and suffocate its prey. This particular conch has come out of his shell and has attached itself to the side of the aquarium.

This young sea anemone is attached to a murex shell. Often referred to as the “flowers of the sea,” sea anemones are actually animals, not plants. These carnivorous creatures primarily feed on small fish and plankton. As this juvenile matures, it will develop tentacles that encircle its mouth. These tentacles contain venom, which the anemone uses to paralyze its prey. There are more than 1,000 species of sea anemones found worldwide.

This is a young lightning whelk. He was gently returned to his aquatic habitat.

We now know a lightning whelk is a gastropod. All gastropods have one shell.
