Byington-Solway FFA Chapter

Byington-Solway FFA Chapter The Byington-Solway FFA Chapter is the club part of our Agriculture Education program. Our Advisor is Mr. Joshua Cameron. We are more than just cows and plows!

Our membership is comprised of students from Karns, Powell, & Hardin Valley High Schools. There is a place for everyone in agriculture at Byington-Solway!! Living on a farm or owning livestock is not a prerequisite. We are leaders, scientists, future chemists, veterinarians, government officials, entrepreneurs, bankers, international business leaders, teachers and premier professionals in many car

eer fields. FFA is not just for students who want to be production farmers; FFA also welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more. For this reason, the name of the organization was updated in 1988 after a vote of national convention delegates to reflect the growing diversity and new opportunities in the industry of agriculture. FFA continues to help the next generation rise up to meet those challenges by helping its members to develop their own unique talents and explore their interests in a broad range of agricultural career pathways. So today, we are still the Future Farmers of America. But, we are the Future Biologists, Future Chemists, Future Veterinarians, Future Engineers and Future Entrepreneurs of America, too. Our agriculture program offers a variety of classes to prepare students for potential careers in the agriculture industry, but the skills translate across the workforce. With over 24 million jobs in the agriculture sector, it is critical to train the next generation to be the FUTURE! Our program is modeled on the 3-Circle Model of Agriculture Education; Classroom/Lab Experience, FFA, & a Supervised Agricultural Experience. Each circle is vitally important in giving students a well-rounded experience in our classes. Through agriculture education, we hope to promote premier leadership, personal growth, and career success!!

A well-deserved recognition tonight for one of our own! 💙💛

Avery Davis was officially recognized at the East Tennessee FFA Regional Banquet on the University of Tennessee Ag Campus for earning 1st Place in the Veterinary Medicine Proficiency for the East TN Region.

Along with a plaque, Avery was awarded $200, all sponsored by the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association.

This proficiency recognizes students who have developed outstanding skills and experience through their Supervised Agricultural Experience in veterinary medicine.

Avery’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to her SAE continue to set the standard for our program.

We are incredibly proud of you and this outstanding accomplishment!

Tonight at the 98th Tennessee FFA State Convention, Avery Davis and Kendall Louis were awarded the Tennessee FFA State Degree, the highest honor a student can earn at the state level. 💙💛

This is not a participation award. It is earned over years.

To receive the State Degree, students must:
• Be active FFA members for multiple years
• Complete extensive agricultural coursework
• Maintain detailed records of their work
• Invest significant time and/or earn income through a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE)
• Demonstrate leadership through FFA involvement, events, and service

Only a small percentage of FFA members across the state ever reach this level.

The State Degree represents commitment, discipline, and follow-through, long after the excitement of joining FFA has passed.

Avery and Kendall have put in that work.

They represent the standard we strive for in our program and the kind of students agricultural education is designed to develop.

This is a major accomplishment, and one that will stay with them well beyond high school.

Congratulations to both of you! We are incredibly proud! 👏
