Reminder - Knox County Primary Election Day is tomorrow, May 5th. Polls are open 8AM - 8PM. Go to knoxvotes.org to find your polling location and other official election info.

The county mayor, both At-Large County Commission Seats, and Districts 3 (Cedar Bluff) and 7 (Powell / Halls) are the races we are paying attention to. Your county commissioners vote on rezonings, land use plan changes, and the zoning ordinance. The county mayor appoints half of the Planning Commissioners and drafts the budget, determining the priority of projects. The Mayor has a strong voice in making any amendments to county ordinances, including the zoning code. Finally, the County Mayor has the authority to propose amendments to the Knox County Growth Plan.

KCPA and our affiliated Planning Advocates chapters urge you to learn about the Knox County Mayoral candidates and to vote in the May 5th Primary Election. HVPA founder and KCPA co-founder Kim Frazier is running in the Republican primary along with Larsen Jay and Betsy Henderson. Beau Hawk is running in the Democratic primary.

This is a post from the president of one of the other neighborhood advocacy organizations, and we think you should read it to understand the importance of the county mayor's position and the candidates in this year's primary.
