An update on Deputy MOUSE

On 1/10/2025, Deputy Mouse was dispatched to the Starke County 911 Center in reference to an unwanted subject. After arriving on scene and diligently searching the area, Deputy MOUSE made contact with the rodent in question. Unfortunately, the rodent in question absconded after a minor scare/scream from the 911 Director led to Deputy MOUSE dropping the rodent in question. Deputy MOUSE stayed in the area, but the rodent never returned. Later dispatchers on duty located the rodent and the local coroner had determined the alleged trespasser had succumbed fatal injuries and is no longer a threat to our 911 center.

Deputy MOUSE is currently decompressing from the incident to ensure she can continue serving the Starke County Sheriff’s Department.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Department would like to introduce our newest member of the F.A.R.M. program: Deputy M.O.U.S.E. (Multi-Operation Unit for Strategic Entrapment). Deputy Mouse was donated by the Starke County Humane Society in May of this year to be utilized as security in the program’s green house. Over the last several months Deputy Mouse has been familiarizing herself with the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and its staff. While making large strides in her career since joining the Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Mouse has also become a valuable asset to the emotional and mental health of her colleagues, continuously offering her aid in reducing stress and providing comical relief even in turbulent situations. As Deputy Mouse continues her career, we plan to keep the community informed on her progress and dedication to Starke County and its citizens. All food, litter, treats and recreation devices have been donated by Sheriff Department staff members.

These last few days we have had and will continue to have a crew out in the community doing roadside cleanup. We please ask that if you see these individuals out, please slow down and use caution when passing. These individuals volunteered to take on this task to help clean up our community and if you’d like to role down your window to say “thank you” they would appreciate it. As always thank you for your continued support.
