🚨 Community Advisory: Protect Yourself from Fraud & Scams

As our community continues recovering from the recent flooding, we want to remind everyone to be cautious of individuals who may try to take advantage of this difficult time.

If someone comes to your home offering assistance, repairs, cleanup services, or soliciting business, please take a few moments to verify who they are before allowing them onto your property.

✅ If they are volunteering through the Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) or (VRC) Verified Non-Profit:
Ask to see their VRC wristband or non-profit organization ID.
Ask them to identify themselves by showing a photo ID.

✅ If they are selling goods or services:
Ask to see their approved City of Uvalde Inspection Record Card before conducting business.

✅ If they are performing electrical, plumbing, or HVAC work:
Verify that they are properly licensed.

You can verify Texas licenses through the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and the appropriate state licensing agencies before hiring a contractor. https://tsbpe.texas.gov/

- Never feel pressured to make an immediate decision or payment.
- Be cautious of anyone requesting large cash payments or full payment upfront.
