Our handsome Barkley enjoying his stuffies! If we didn’t know his age we would have guessed him much younger. He gets around so well for a senior and loves to play. No mobility issues at all.
Meet Barkley
Barkley is a handsome estimated to be 6-8year-old male Chow Chow whose story is heartbreaking.
For 6-8years, Barkley had a person to call his own. He knew her voice, her smell, her home, her routines, and most importantly, he knew he was loved. She was his whole world. But as her health declined, she eventually entered hospice care and could no longer care for him.
Barkley had no idea why his person suddenly disappeared. He went from having a home and the person he adored to sitting alone in a shelter, surrounded by unfamiliar people and wondering where she was and why she wasn’t coming back. After so many years together, everything he knew was gone.
Through absolutely no fault of his own, this sweet senior boy lost the life he had known for almost a decade.
Despite everything, Barkley has remained an incredibly loving boy. He absolutely loves and adores his person and wants nothing more than to be close to them. He is a wonderful companion and can happily spend part of his day lounging around like a couch potato.
But don’t let that fool you—Barkley does not act his age at all! If we didn’t know his age, we would honestly guess he was younger. He is incredibly playful with his toys, loves to play and run, and gets around remarkably well. He has no mobility issues and keeps up beautifully. He can go from couch potato to playful youngster in no time!
Barkley does wonderfully meeting people and has accepted both men and women equally. He is also exceptionally easy at the vet and is easy to handle for grooming and veterinary care. He does not require a muzzle, which is an especially wonderful quality in a senior Chow.
Barkley is neutered, house trained, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccinations.
What Barkley needs now is simple: a person who will love him as much as he will love them. Someone who understands that bringing a senior dog home is a commitment—not something to walk away from when life gets inconvenient.
Barkley has already lost his person, his home, and everything familiar to him once.
He should never have to wonder if he is going to be abandoned again.
His next person needs to be his forever person. His next home needs to be his forever home. After giving 6-8years of his life to one person, Barkley deserves to spend his remaining years knowing he is safe, cherished, and finally home.
