Today, during Women’s History Month, I lift up the strength, resilience, and sacred power of Native women.
From time immemorial, we have carried our nations forward as life givers, water protectors, knowledge keepers, language bearers, leaders, and healers. Long before the world recognized the value of women’s leadership, our grandmothers were governing, stewarding the land, raising warriors, negotiating peace, and sustaining our cultures through the hardest of times.
We have endured unimaginable loss of land, children, language, and life - yet we are still here! We continue to protect the water. We continue to defend sovereignty. We continue to teach our young people who they are and where they come from.
We honor the grandmothers whose prayers still guide us.We honor the mothers who hold families and communities together. We honor the daughters who are reclaiming language, culture, and ceremony. We honor the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women whose lives matter and whose spirits call us to action.
We are not just part of history we are the heartbeat of our future.
May we walk in strength.May we speak with courage.May we lead with wisdom.
