Did you know that the Klamath County Museum has 825,000 artifacts? Director Ashley Affleck-Johnson told us so at the Klamath Falls Sunrise Rotary Club meeting June 9. As director, Affleck-Johnson is pulling out all the stops to improve the museum's visibility and engagement with the community. Check out what they are doing at www.klamathcounty.org/427/Museums. And check out our Rotary Club. Come meet us at an informal social Tuesday, June 16, at 5 p.m. at The Garage downtown.

April is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Appropriately, East Coast Rotarian Steve Fine gave a presentation to the Klamath Falls Sunrise Rotary club — via Zoom — on the varieties of melanoma, recognition and prevention. Good advice as one heads out under the sun. Sunrise Rotary meets Tuesdays at 7 a.m. in the Fairfield Inn. Come join us for breakfast and good discussions.

Many thanks to SMART reader volunteer and state board member Ray Holliday for being "The Little Engine that Could" — one of his favorite books he reads to kindergartners through 2nd grade as part of the local SMART reader program. Ray spoke to the Klamath Falls Sunrise Rotary Club March 24. Volunteer readers are needed to visit all of the Klamath Basin schools in grades K-3rd. It only involves a 1/2 hour of your time each week. Sign up here: https://bit.ly/4uWEZZV Ray has been reading to young students for more than 30 years at Mills Elementary and other schools. SMART's efforts help students learn to read so they can read to learn from the third grade forward.
