What is it about this place?

State officials keep asking the same question about Klamath Falls. What is the special sauce? Why does this community come together in ways that others simply do not?

It starts with people who believe that where you grow up should not limit what you can become, and an organization willing to build the infrastructure to prove it.

Sky Lakes is developing a model that goes beyond healthcare. A way of training people for the careers they actually want, rooted in the community they already love.

There is something about hearing it from someone outside of this community that makes it land a little differently.

Becky Hultberg, President and CEO of the Hospital Association of Oregon, has seen a lot of hospitals. A lot of communities.

When she talks about what Sky Lakes and the Klamath Falls community have built, and what a healthy Klamath Falls looks like five years from now, she is being specific. And specific is what matters.

The foundation is already laid here. The Sky Lakes Foundation’s work is part of what keeps building it.

Think about the last time you needed to see a doctor and just went. You scheduled it, showed up, and got care.

For a lot of people in rural communities around Klamath Falls, it is not that simple. A trip to a clinic can mean a half day off work, a long drive on roads that are not always forgiving, or simply a decision to wait and hope it gets better on its own.

That is exactly the problem that the Sky Lakes Mobile Clinic was built to change.

Since launching on September 23, 2025, the clinic has been driving to rural regions every single month. Two full clinic rooms inside a trailer. No appointment needed. Minor injury care, chronic disease management, point-of-care testing, health education, and referrals to specialists, all available to anyone who walks up.

In its first month alone, 19 people received care. 46 seniors got vaccinated at the AgeWell Expo. And $165,000 from this community made it possible to open the doors in the first place.

The truck was donated by Lithia. The grant came from Cascade Health Alliance. And the clinic keeps going because people here believe that where you live should never determine whether you get care.

Something happened in Denver last week that we want to share with you.

Sky Lakes Medical Center was awarded the 2026 AHA Foster G. McGaw Prize for Excellence in Community Service by the American Hospital Association. It is one of the most respected awards in American healthcare, given to a hospital that goes beyond clinical care to actively build a healthier, more vibrant community.

The programs that earned this recognition are not abstract. They are the pump track your kids will ride on. The roundabout art you drive past. The CTE students who chose to stay in Klamath Falls and build their careers here. The mobile clinic that drives to Beatty, Chemult, and Merrill so people do not have to drive hours for care. The gardens, the trails, the wellness programs, and the quiet support that shows up for families when they need it most.

Sky Lakes Medical Center won this award. But it was built by this community.

The Foundation exists to support and fund that work. Every contribution you make is part of what just got recognized on a national stage.

There is a moment right after a baby is born when the whole world gets quiet. Everything that was hard about the pregnancy, the worry, the waiting, the wondering, suddenly there is just this tiny person, and the feeling that nothing else matters.

But for many families in our community, the quiet doesn't last long. The questions come fast. How do we get them home safely? Where will they sleep tonight? What if we can't afford what they need?

The Sky Lakes Foundation Maternal Child Health Fund was built for exactly that moment. This year, 651 babies were born at Sky Lakes. For every single family, the fund was already there. Car seats for the ride home. Cribs for the first night. A sleep swaddle and a first board book for every newborn. Labor and delivery classes so that new mothers walk in nervous and leave feeling ready.

And for the families who faced a loss no one prepares you for, something quieter. The kind of comfort that shows up without being asked.

Somewhere in Klamath Falls, there is a young person who already knows they want to spend their life caring for people.

They can picture it. The scrubs, the hallway, the moment someone looks at them and trusts them completely with something that matters.

What they cannot always picture is how to get there. The cost of training. The time. The question of whether someone in a place like Klamath Falls can really build that kind of career without leaving everything behind.

The Sky Lakes Foundation Workforce Development fund exists to answer that question with a yes.

Through the Career Technical Education Healthcare programs, students right here in our community earn hands-on clinical training, certifications, and a real pathway into healthcare without leaving the region they grew up in. They stay, they serve, and they become the nurses, medical assistants, and caregivers this community needs.

$5,400 is all that's needed to fully sponsor one Student Ambassador through a 12-week program, and most of that goes directly to the student as paid work-study.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the Golf Like A Hero 7th annual golf tournament an incredible success!

From our sponsors, golfers, volunteers, donors, and community partners to everyone who helped behind the scenes—your generosity, enthusiasm, and support made this event truly special.

Because of you, we came together for a day of friendly competition, meaningful connections, and raised $19,621 toward the Pediatric Therapy Treehouse. Every swing, sponsorship, raffle ticket, and volunteer hour contributed to making a lasting impact.

We are one step closer to creating a specialized play space for kids with physical, sensory, and developmental challenges, designed around the idea that therapy works best when it feels like play.
