Strong work B-shift!
Recognizing Life-Saving Rescue Efforts!
Klamath Falls, OR — Interim Fire Chief Brent Knutson and the members of Klamath County Fire District #1 formally recognized firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs on December 2nd for their outstanding performance during a structure fire on November 14, 2025—an incident where their actions directly contributed to saving a life.
Crews arrived in under four minutes from the initial 911 call. Upon arrival, firefighters completed a rapid size-up and immediately initiated a primary search. Under heavy smoke and deteriorating fire conditions, the crew quickly located a trapped resident and safely removed them from the burning home. Within minutes of the rescue, the patient was receiving advanced care and was transported to Sky Lakes Medical Center before being transferred to OHSU for continued treatment.
This rescue was the result of disciplined training, preparation, and teamwork. KCFD1 personnel routinely train on search-and-rescue tactics, rapid intervention, fire behavior, patient care, and coordinated fireground operations. Those hours of training—conducted in live-fire environments, scenario-based drills, and station-level practice—directly contributed to the seamless actions taken that day.
“Our KCFD1 team delivers outstanding service every single day, but the actions on November 14 were exceptional even by their high standards,” said Interim Chief Knutson. “Their ability to stay calm under pressure, trust their training, and work as a coordinated team reflects the very best of this profession. They upheld their oath to protect life, no matter the risk.”
Klamath County Fire District #1 is proud of the responders whose professionalism, courage, and dedication made a life-saving difference. Their actions are a powerful reminder of the importance of preparation—and of the commitment our firefighters bring to the Klamath Basin every day.
