POP!

No we are not trying to make a sound effect!

However, we are trying to spread the word about the beautiful PELICAN sculptures still for sale, originally designed by Klamath Falls’ bronze artist Stefan Savides, & painted by Klamath Basin artists. You can view many of these pelicans at the Klamath Falls Visitor Center (205 Riverside Drive), adjacent to the "Ken Hay Nature Trail".

These enchanting pelicans are “one-of-a-kind” art pieces, & have graced hospitals, museums, art galleries, private homes, banks, resorts, businesses, & even now in the Mayor’s office in Klamath Falls!

Proceeds from the Pelicans on Parade (POP!) project will continue to benefit kids in Klamath Wingwatchers’ “Connect Kids to Nature” program.

What a great day! Our last Saturday work day of the year (probably) was spent planting about 150 native plants along the west side of the highway.

These plants were raised from seed and planted with the hopes of filling in the vegetation along the road to screen the view, improve habitat, and just… look better!

It will be a few years before these tiny yarrow, Oregon grape, coneflower, and horsemint are really noticeable, as they’ll spend their first few years establishing a deep root system.

Many donuts sacrificed themselves for the cause.

Bonnie Hay, widow of former Wingwatchers Vice President Ken Hay, will once again treat us to nature songs as we walk the Ken Hay Trail on Saturday, September 21, at 5 pm.

Plan about 90 minutes to hear Bonnie sing in the open air of our trail and enjoy an autumn evening.

There is no fee, but donations to the trail are appreciated and are tax deductible. Gather at 4:45 pm in the Chamber of Commerce parking lot.

Hope we see you there!

Must be 18 years of age, commit to a weekly work shift, and be a team player!

Any day walking the Wingwatchers Trail is a good day… but some are better than others. Who knows what delights you’ll encounter, from delicate flowers, to startled pelicans, to cryptic dragonflies…

Do you have any favorites from your morning walks? Hope we see you out there!

You never know what wild critters you'll encounter while helping at the Wingwatchers Trail!

This baby Great Basin gopher snake (non-poisonous and super cute!) was among the weeds being pulled as wonderful volunteers maintain recent plantings along the trail. These native plants will help improve habitat, screen the view, noise, and pollution from Hwy 97, and generally "spruce" the place up!

Note: No actual spruces were planted; this location is too hot and dry for them.😀

We hope you enjoy it, John!

We hope you enjoy it, John!

John found a surprise in the office this week, KBO's own Pelicans on Parade pelican. These statues can be seen all over Klamath Falls, OR, celebrating the city's mascot, the American White Pelican. Those showcase beautiful art by local artists and are a fundraiser organized by Klamath Wingwatchers. You can visit pelicansonparade.com to learn more.
