They say there's no rest for the "wicked awesome," or something like that. Our next event is coming up!

Join us for the French and Indian War Weekend Saturday June 14 from 10am-4pm and Sunday June 15 from 10am-3pm. Enjoy watching demonstrations and chatting with living historians about what life was like in the mid-18th century. We will also have a battle scenario to showcase 18th century tactics, weather permitting. It's a weekend full of ambience, history and, of course, stunning coastal views. Be sure not to miss it!

RE: Stolen Firewood

Unfortunately, the Friends of Fort McClary is in need of dried firewood for this upcoming season of events. The cord that we had saved for this year was stolen from the fort grounds. If there is anyone who would like to donate wood, please send us a message through Facebook or to our e-mail at [email protected]. We would be very grateful for any amount donated.

Friendly and firm reminder to all: the Friends of Fort McClary is a non-profit group of volunteers who make donations of all kinds for the benefit of preserving this integral part of Maine's history. This wood was a generous donation which is in turn given complimentary to the reenactors who in participate in our events as a "thank you" for volunteering. These events are important because they generate interest in and money for the purposes of restoring and preserving the Fort and its history. The reenactors who volunteer with us are among our greatest assets, and we insist that they are given proper amenities in recognition of their time and effort.

If anyone has information about this theft, we encourage you to please notify the Kittery police, with whom a report has been filed.

We've moved! 📦

Fear not, we haven't picked up the fort and moved it somewhere else.

As 2024 comes to an end, the Friends of Fort McClary would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who made this year an extraordinary one. We are grateful for and delighted by the many ways that our visitors, volunteers, donors, neighbors, social media followers and more have contributed throughout this very memorable year.

Among the many "greats" that happened in 2024, we would like to highlight one that was especially important to our mission of historical preservation of this fort. A special thank you to all who rallied and generously contributed to repair the roof of the ca. 1808 Powder House building, commemorated with a ribbon cutting ceremony in October. Your efforts have helped to ensure the Powder House's physical integrity, especially as we move deeper into the winter months. An extra special thank you goes out to Marjan Frank and Park Manager Glenn "Doc" Dochtermann for spearheading this campaign.

We're excited to share more about upcoming happenings at Fort McClary, but until then the Friends of Fort McClary wish all a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year. See you at the fort in 2025! ⚓
