Rural Housing 101: The one size fits all approach regarding State Funding for Housing does not work for Eastern Colorado. How can we work with State funding for housing when the programs that are geared towards an Aurora or a Fort Collins project are identical to the ones for a Kit Carson Project with no adjustment for scale, capacity, or context?

Meanwhile, Colorado's resort communities — the Vails of the world — have their own funding category: Rural Resort, complete with additional concessions tailored to their needs. They got that category because they had the money and capacity to build lobbying power.

Eastern Colorado has neither. Without the resources to lobby, our communities can't push for the concessions that would actually allow State Housing programs to work out here instead of only serving the front range and rural resort communities.

We are not Rural Resort, we are Rural Frontier. So per the frontier spirit, we will try do things, as much as possible, on our own. And thanks to tremendous support from several private foundations and a low interest only loan from the Cheyenne County Commissioners, we are hard at work on bringing in 3 new affordable homes to our community.
