Jackson’s Nephroblastoma Journey

Jackson made a new friend yesterday, another brave childhood cancer survivor, Bryana! They showed off their battle scars from surgery (Jackson calls his his “shark bite” and loves to follow up with “you should see the other guy” when showing others) and played tag and hide-and-seek after Bryana played softball against his big sister! It was so wonderful meeting another local family who has gone through what we have, even if it is due to this horrible disease..

Jackson had his bilateral partial nephrectomy 1 year ago today. The beginning of a very scary 16 day hospital stay. He has come SO far in the last year!

Also check out his new kicks! (He got AFOs yesterday, still getting used to them but so far so good!)

Jackson has scans tomorrow (7/22)! This is always an anxious time for us all but we know how great our God is what He can do! Please pray with us that he handles his IV well and for continued good labs and clear scans!

Mama has been slacking on posting updates lately 😜 but Jackson had his follow up appointment with Nephrology yesterday and got another good report! We will continue to monitor his kidney function when we get labs at our next scans in July and follow up again in 6 months or so!

He was recently evaluated for OT and PT and should start those soon just to catch up on his fine motor and coordination/spatial awareness with the decreased exposure over the last year 😎

At Unravel, we celebrate every child who has made it through... not just this month, but every single day.

Survivorship is not the finish line. Most people see the end of treatment and think everything goes back to normal. For childhood cancer survivors and their families... it is rarely that simple. The journey that follows comes with its own challenges.

To the ones still in the fight - you inspire everything we do.

And to the ones who should still be here - you are loved, you are remembered, and you are the reason we show up every single day without fail.
