Anubis, foster turned unintentionally long resident, finally seemed to truly decompress and settle back into life here just a month or so ago.
After he and his sister, Bast, were adopted in December and returned about 2-3 weeks later, Anubis spent a long while very conflicted and stressed about his routine being disrupted so significantly. His adopters tried their best to earn his trust, but they didn’t speak his language— nor did he speak theirs— and it just stressed him beyond his threshold. While I consider myself lucky that stress didn’t manifest itself with any physical symptoms, I do still wrestle often with what is going to be best for him and Bast long-term. They are both two sides of the same coin; Anubis only trusts me and needs his sister/other familiar cats for support, Bast reluctantly trusts me but warms to most other people easily but does not function well without her brother.
Right now, neither are posted for adoption and they have not been since they were returned to me. Whether or not that will change in the future totally depends on whether I feel I can safely find someone Anubis will trust who would also be willing to invest the time needed into fully earning his trust by his rules.

Long time no talk…
I experienced some major burnout after my car accident and one of my personal cats passing away all in one week. The easiest thing to step away from was my social media presence for the rescue, so that’s exactly what I did.
Even stepping away here does not mean that my work has stopped. I still have plenty of fosters to take care of, vet visits to take cats to, and adoption inquiries to field on a daily basis. Our most recent vet visit was getting the second stray cat I found in my yard, Bengal, neutered. He turned out to not be feral in the slightest despite his initial reaction to me after being trapped, so once he gets his booster vaccines in 3-4 weeks he’ll be up for adoption.
I will make a longer post updating you all on things shortly.

THANK YOU
Thank you for the outpouring of support from both my friends as well as supporters of the rescue regarding Boma’s very sudden passing. Cam, Amaya, and Megan— to name a few— have been nothing but supportive. I’d also like to thank everyone who has commented condolences here, as well as my neighbor and supporter Nelly who dropped off this care package for the fosters yesterday. Despite the curveballs the past week and a half has thrown my way, I’m still reassured knowing I’ve got supporters in my corner here to help me and my cats out. 💜

One of my personal cats, Boma, passed away very suddenly on the morning of April 3rd.
Some might be wondering why I would mention that here, but to me it’s simple: Boma was the third ever cat I rescued. I met him when I was 18 and brought him home when I was 19. Back then, I figured me rescuing cats would just mean accumulating them until I ran out of room. I dreamed of one day being able to foster for someone else’s rescue but never dreamed I’d be able to do any of what I’ve done myself. At the age of 18 I watched Boma, an incredibly outgoing and snuggly kitten, be tossed outside with no consideration for what was best for him. Seeing that as well as Boma’s perseverance was a key piece of me realizing what I was destined to spend my life doing: rescuing cats in need.
Boma’s start to life was rough; he was born to a feral colony in Garrett County, MD where shooting feral cats is legal if they’re on your property. He was taken in by a rescue, raised at a vet’s office, and then someone decided his new lease on life should be as a barn cat. He was terrified, then fearless, and that lack of understanding of what dangers existed as a barn cat around 50+ horses got him stepped on several times and upset many horse people claiming he was a hazard. No one cared that he walked around the barn crying or started hiding in the lofts or hay barns more and more. All they cared about was him being underfoot when he’d come to people for reassurance.
I brought him home way back then after the barn manager not only left him locked outside on many 20° nights, but also went days without feeding him. That inconsistent access to food led to lifelong food insecurity that made him the worst beggar but, even still, he never once got upset with another cat over food. Ever.
Fast forward to 2026 and Boma was one of many of my own cats who helped some of my older intakes like Casper, Bagheera, Pixie, Pua, Daphne, Sevika, and Fig learn to trust other cats (Casper didn’t need help with that part!) and live inside. He met many kittens and never batted an eye and also welcomed my first ever Florida rescue, Ahsoka, with open arms when I brought her home only 6 weeks after moving down here in October of 2021.
My rescue was named after BB, the orange cat featured in some of the oldest photos in this post. He and Boma were best friends; 2 halves of a whole. BB passed in September of 2022 and, while Boma was close with my senior boy Loki and long-term foster Bagheera, I always felt like he was forever looking for his brother. Now I can only hope they are finally reunited for some much needed snuggles and playtime. I know they’ve got a lot of catching up to do. 🐈‍⬛🪽🐈

Where do I even start…
My car is totaled, so for right now I have no way to transport cats unless it’s an absolute emergency (more on that in a later post). I do have a car lined up to look at but that’s not until this coming Saturday so I have the loaner until then.
If anyone would like to donate towards replacing my car or towards the fosters in the meantime to help offset some of the costs + me missing some work, I’d deeply appreciate it.

My car, the same car I’ve rescued/transported god knows how many cats with the last 1.5 years I’ve had it, was totaled just 24 hours ago in a car accident 1 mile away from my home. I was on my way to pick up a cat tree being donated to me by a friend of mine when a car blew a stop sign and cut me off, giving me 0 time to do anything besides slam the brakes and brace for impact. Every airbag deployed and I will always remember the sound of them popping in my ears. This was my first car accident— or really car anything— ever. I’m 25 and I’ve never even gotten a speeding ticket.
After the world’s most expensive Uber ride as well as a bunch of x-rays and a CT scan (all clear), I was sent home from the hospital with a lidocaine patch, muscle relaxers, and steroids as well as a followup referral to an orthopedist for the potential worsening of my existing arthritis in my back from the impact.
At the time of the crash, after realizing I was overall ok, my first thought was how incredibly lucky I was that there were no cats in the car with me. Then my next thought was utter panic at the fact my car was very likely totaled and will need to be replaced.
24 hours post-accident and I’ve got a loaner car that I’m contractually not allowed to transport animals in and 0 word from my insurance company despite them promising an answer today. The towing company, the police, and I are all 99.99% convinced it is totaled. If anyone has any interest in donating to support my fosters to offset costs at this time as well as my loss of income from my other job while I recover/car shop, it would be greatly appreciated. My car is both my personal vehicle and my work vehicle for the rescue so replacing it ASAP is my #1 priority and also something I’d deeply appreciate any and all help with.

Grimmerie is ADOPTED!!
Grimmerie, lovingly known as Grimmie, went to her forever home this past Saturday. That’s 7/9 Wicked kittens adopted!! Only 2 left and 1 is Nessa who isn’t even posted for adoption currently. What fantastic progress!
Grimmerie’s new home is a great fit for her with 2 older brothers and 2 very loving cat parents who were looking to add a snuggly little cat to their family. Grimmie will have 2 older brothers to play with once she adjusts and something tells me she’ll one day be queen reigning over them despite the fact one of the boys tips the scales at 19 pounds!
Grimmerie is a testament to the number of incredibly sweet, gorgeous black cats who are passed over by people with a meaningless color bias towards dark colored cats. If you ever find yourself looking for a new cat/dog, please know that black dogs and cats are some of the least likely to be adopted and are just as deserving as “flashier” colored animals. They deserve all the love in the world; not to face biases based off old myths and people more focused on “aesthetics” than personalities.

“It’s good to see me, isn’t it?” 🫧👑🪄🩷
Glinda is ADOPTED!! This sweetheart never even made it to PetFinder she’s so charismatic. Her adopter Kelley met her back in early February and fell in love. She was willing to wait to make sure Glinda got the all clear from the vet about her overbite and, when that happened, we scheduled her pickup for as soon as Kelley could make it.
Glinda is a very special girl who I’m happy to say found an incredible home just as her siblings did. I am so excited for her to meet her new feline sister and have the best life possible. 🥹🩷

We have a diabetic kitty in the house!
Gypsy had her fasted bloodwork done this morning and even after an 11-hour fast, her bloodwork still showed elevated glucose and her urine was pretty much full of it. Luckily there were no ketones present, so there isn’t a concern currently for diabetic ketoacidosis. But that is a very common thing to see in cats becoming diabetic and it flying under the radar for some period of time and is still one of many complications we will be watching out for moving forward.
Gypsy starts insulin this evening and will continue getting her b12 injections for her IBD. Speaking of her IBD, there is a strong possibility her diabetes is secondary to her IBD. Many cats with IBD develop diabetes because of the irritation/inflammation in the GI tract and pancreas which can lead to other pancreatic issues… like diabetes.
Today’s bill was $544 + $82 for an AlphaTrak glucometer, $50 for insulin syringes, and a couple other incidentals (ketone strips, new sharps contsiners, etc.) and Gypsy’s bill last week was $180. If anyone would be gracious enough to help with this lady’s ongoing costs, we’d be immensely grateful! She’s an expensive pretty little lady 🎀😅

Let’s celebrrrrrate because Brr is ADOPTED!!!!! 🎉🥳👏🏻🎊🙌🏻
Brr is one of my favorite fosters I’ve ever had. He is the absolute definition of a snuggly, playful guy and purrs like no cat on this planet. I love him dearly and am so, so deeply excited for his forever with his adopter Gabriel and new feline sister. It’s bittersweet to see him go, but I’m so happy to see him find his forever 🥹💚
