On this Confirmation Sunday, thirteen eighth graders stood before the congregation to say yes, not because they have all the answers, but because they are choosing a way of seeing the world with open eyes and engaged hearts. They remind us that faith is not a graduation, it’s a lifelong practice of focus.

Each of the confirmands received a simple, but powerful gift: a small sight stone, reminding us that even when our vision feels limited, what we choose to focus on still matters.

As we shared Communion together, we were reminded that this practice is for the broken and the brave.
For the doubters and the dreamers.
For all of us still learning where to look.

In his latest sermon, Rev'd Gary Noonan talks about the importance of being the kind of church where people know what we stand for. When we invite people to First Pres and say "come and see"...we know what they can expect.

Come and see how we love the poor, the marginalized, the mistreated, the ignored.
Come and see how we give dignity back to those who’ve lost it or given it away.
Come and see how we encounter God creatively.
Come and see how we love one another in community.
Come and see how we stand for peace and justice.
Come and see how we’re radically generous.

We live in a culture that constantly tells us we need to earn our value. That our worth depends on our appearance, our ability, our income, who we love, what we believe, or whether we fit in. We live in a world that so easily dehumanizes the other.

Baptism is a holy protest against all of that.

Baptism says that you are loved not because of what you do, but because of who God is! Before you prove anything, before you figure everything out, hear this voice from God: "You are my beloved…In you, I am well pleased."

We may not always feel baptized. Some days the world makes it hard to remember that voice. Especially in weeks like this past one when the headlines break your heart. When cruelty feels louder than kindness. Don’t be afraid of questions. Don’t run from doubt. Because the power of baptism isn’t that we hold onto God…it’s that God holds onto us.

So come to the water again. Let it heal what is broken. Let it stir what is dormant. Let it send you out, not just as a person of faith, but as a person of courage.

✨The Way of Wonder ✨
Epiphany Sermon by Rev’d Gary Noonan

If Christmas is about God arriving in the world, Epiphany is about who gets to see it...and the answer is everyone. Not just insiders. Not just those who “belong.” Seekers from afar. Outsiders. The curious. The brave.

The Magi had a choice: fear or wonder, control or surrender. Like them, we’re invited to bring what we have: our time, our resources, our creativity, our honesty. Not because we have it all figured out, but because grace meets us on the journey.

So the Epiphany question remains:
✨Where do you see the star today?
✨And who might be following a light you haven’t noticed yet?
