The Vertical Drop Welcome to the The Vertical Drop page. There are individual prizes for those who finish in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and a team prize for 1st place.

The Silver State Vertical Drop is an annual ski competition and community fundraising event put on by the Silver State Hotshots and the Black Mountain Hotshots, both Carson City-based wildfire suppression crews. Justin Cutler, the current captain of the Silver State Hotshots, began the event in 2008 and it has taken place each year, this winter being the 13th event.

Individuals or teams of 3-5 compete to safely ski as much vertical feet as possible in a 4-hour time period. In the past, these prizes have been donated to us from companies such as Moment Skis, Patagonia, and Smith Optics. This year's Vertical Drop will be held at Kirkwood Mountain Resort, California. There will be food and b**r in exchange for a donation to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation! Food comes from donations from local delis such as Sierra Meats. The b**r is donated from local breweries including Great Basin Brewing and Lead Dog.

All proceeds from the Silver State Vertical Drop go to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation—a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that provides support firefighters and their families in times of crisis. Today, the Vertical Drop is the longest running fundraiser that supports the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

It Is that time of year again!!! Grab your team and get ready for an amazing event!
You can register by visiting the link in our bio where you can see all ticketing info! You can register as a single participant or as teams of 3-6 people.
Passholders will be $69 and non-passholders will be $119.

All tickets can be picked up the day of the event, just bring ID for the name registered. Tickets are available the day of the event but, they are limited so grab yours before they sell out!

We’ve been counting up the incredible amount of donations, ticket sales, and auction sales from the last weekend and we are blown away by the generosity! We also had a ton of awesome photos from our spectators, volunteers and participants. ⁣⁣

We can’t thank everyone involved enough! Our sponsors, our participants, our donors, and our volunteers went above and beyond for The Wildland Firefighter Foundation this year! We really want to thank our amazing host for supporting our event and providing us with so much especially during such a busy season.
