At the June 17 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting, a $2000 club scholarship from flag funds was presented to the KHS International Thespian Society Chapter which will compete at the International Thespian Festival to be held in Bloomington, Indiana. Elizabeth Anderson and Heather Darrah are co-sponsoring the trip. Three of four competitors were present today. At the June 17 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting, a $2100 club scholarship from flag funds was presented to Kirksville Area Technical Center representative Rich Chapman. He introduced two competitors: Mason White and Varsha Manikandan. Mason White along with his partner received a national gold medal in Additive Manufacturing (3D printing - high school level) at the 2026 Skills USA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, GA. They competed with 34 other states. Varsha Manikandan competed in public speaking with 44 other states and finished in the top six. Pictured from left are Chapman, White and Manikandan.

At the May 20 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting, Rotarian Melissa Stuart presented a Ray Klinginsmith $1,000 High School Scholarship to Heidi Lay (center). Lay, a former RYLA attendee, recently graduated at the same time from both Brashear R-II High School and MACC with an Associate’s degree. She will attend Truman State University in the fall with the hope of becoming a first or second grade teacher. She is pictured with her parents, Liz and Charlie.

The speaker at the May 13 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting was Parks and Recreation Director Robin Harden. She updated the club on various City of Kirksville projects and discussed upcoming events, including the July 4th celebration at North Park. It begins at 5:30 PM with food and games and ends with fireworks run by the Kirksville Fire Department.

Aline Guilavogui, a KHS senior, wants to become a pediatrician. She will attend Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina, in the fall.
