Good afternoon!

Take a peek inside the bulletin this week for a photo and personal introduction from Gretchen Naylor, our new parish Business Manager.

The parish center is closed tomorrow for the Juneteenth federal holiday. If you are unfamiliar with the holiday, here's a quick history lesson: https://www.history.com/articles/what-is-juneteenth

This was the first of three weeks when Fr. Joe is off during the week working with the diocesan youth camps. Fr. Simeo has Mass coverage for this week (minus Thursdays, which are canceled), and then next week Fr. Joe is now planning to pop back up for Tuesday and Friday Masses and Friday afternoon confessions. For the week beginning June 28, we're looking at Tuesday evening 5:15pm Evening Prayer and then 5:30pm Liturgy of the Word with Holy Communion. Friday, July 3 will be Morning Prayer and Benediction to begin the day of Adoration, with afternoon confessions canceled. **TL;DR: Thursdays are cancelled. Show up on Tuesday and Friday, and there will be a liturgy of some kind.**

On Wednesday and Thursday, the 24/25th, the church will be locked for carpet cleaning and drying. If you need to grab something before then, please do so!

Next weekend, the 27/28th, will be our food collection for PAC at all Masses, followed by a Drive Through Dropoff on Monday from 1-2pm out front. Our requested item is peanut butter.

Enjoy your weekend!

AN INVITATION FROM OUR PARISH MUSICIANS:

The diocese wants us to learn the Mass Of St Frances Cabrini to be used at our Masses, and all musical parishioners are invited to join us. Some of the 4:30 Saturday group are meeting at 6:45 tomorrow night, (Thursday, 6-18-26) to learn it. The church is reserved for us to practice up in the loft. The church door may be locked so come in by the side door or call me and I will let you in at the side door. If anyone wants to join us, you are most welcome. I have plenty of vocal copies to use during the practice and I also have my copy of the keyboard accompaniment. I thought it might be fun to learn it together.

I apologize for such short notice!
All the best!
Sandy

(P.S. from Lynn that all parish volunteers must be compliant with diocesan safe environment policies. If you would like to join the choir, please let me know so that I can verify that you're all set, or give you instructions to take care of it. Thanks!)

Sofia Ramirez, a recent graduate of Mary Immaculate Catholic School, won the Knights of Columbus Citizenship Essay Contest with her reflection on Pope Leo XIV, the first U.S.-born pope.

“Even when his friends did not understand and there was peer pressure, he did not waver from what he sensed God was calling him to do.”

In her essay, Sofia highlights how his ordinary life, rooted in prayer and small acts of faith, led to an extraordinary calling. Her message is a powerful reminder that holiness is possible for everyone and often begins with simple, faithful steps each day.

Good afternoon!

There is no 11am Mass tomorrow. That was an artifact left over from the previous bulletin, sorry! We will have 6:45am Morning Prayer and 7am Mass as usual, to begin the day of Adoration.

TONIGHT: Adoration at St. Rose has been cancelled. This is a regular event on the second Thursday monthly, so please save the date for July.

This weekend, our diocese will not celebrate the 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time, but will instead transfer the celebration of the Immaculate Heart of Mary from Saturday to Sunday, as she is the principal Patroness of our diocese under this title. https://miparish.org/resources-1 to prepare yourself for Mass.

Our celebrant this weekend is Fr. Simeo Butaleeba, a Ugandan priest who has been studying in Chicago, and who came to Kirksville to visit with Fr. Joe. He will also be covering Tuesday and Friday Masses next week and hearing confessions on Friday. Benediction next Friday will be at 5pm instead of 5:30pm, to accommodate a wedding rehearsal.

Inviting all 13-15 year olds! Great River Quest, in Quincy IL, has a retreat coming up July 10-11, 2026 (6p-6p). It’s a fast paced 24 hour retreat aimed at helping youth to examine their relationship to God, self, and others in their lives. You get to make new friends and get to know the ones you come with better, all while having lots of fun! Please contact Caroline Wiewel 217-430-6086 or email [email protected] for questions or fill out an app online at www.greatrivertec.org/quest

Over the next few weeks, Fr. Joe is helping out with youth camps for the diocese. Thursday Masses will be canceled for June 18 & 25, and July 2. There may or may not be priest coverage available for the Tuesdays and Fridays of those weeks. If there are priests, there will be Masses and Friday afternoon confessions. (Pray for vocations!!) If not, Liturgy of the Word with Holy Communion on Tuesdays, and Morning Prayer and Benediction to begin Adoration on Fridays, but no Friday afternoon confessions. We just got coverage for Tuesday evening, June 16, and Friday, June 19, so the electronic bulletin has been updated to show that we will pray for the repose of the soul of John Schlepphorst on Tuesday, and Junior & Marie Johnson on Friday, with Friday afternoon confessions.

The Immigration Outreach Committee invites anyone interested to join their next meeting on Thursday, June 18, at 1:30pm in the Parish Center. This is another late addition that didn't make it into the print bulletin this week. With a bit more notice, July 9, at 1:30pm at Newman, they are planning a larger community meeting, so please mark your calendar if you're interested in checking it out.

You will see in the bulletin or at https://miparish.org/bulletins that we are welcoming a new Business Manager to the parish. All the details are in Fr. Joe's letter. Welcome, Gretchen!

Please stay safe out there!
