🐾✨ Meet Cricket ✨🐾
As the temperatures rise, kitten season is in full swing, and rescues across Indiana are feeling the impact. For small nonprofit rescues like Jet’s Animal Services, kitten season brings an overwhelming need for foster homes, food, litter, medical care, and supplies.
Unlike some shelters and larger organizations, Jet’s is not state-funded. We rely entirely on the generosity of our community through volunteers, donations, and social media support. Every dollar, every share, and every kind word makes a difference.
Today, we’d like you to meet Cricket. 🖤
Cricket is approximately 3 years old and was recently surrendered to Jet’s while fully pregnant. Her story is sadly all too common. She spent her entire life in one home, and when her owners could no longer keep her, they began calling rescues looking for help.
Unfortunately, many organizations are already beyond capacity during kitten season. Some even suggested that since Cricket became pregnant outdoors, she should simply be put back outside to have her kittens.
As rescuers, we know that’s not a safe solution.
Outdoor cats face countless dangers, including heat, illness, parasites, predators, traffic, and people who may not have their best interests at heart. No mother cat should have to raise her babies under those conditions.
Cricket also faces another challenge. She’s a beautiful black cat.
Many people don’t realize that black cats are often overlooked in shelters and rescues due to outdated superstitions and misconceptions. Sadly, they can take longer to find forever homes, and pregnant black cats can be especially difficult to place.
But we think Cricket deserves her chance to shine. ✨
She is safe now. She is loved. And when the time comes, her babies will be born indoors, cared for, and given every opportunity to find wonderful homes.
