Congresswoman Suzan DelBene is now accepting applications for her inaugural Youth Advisory Council (YAC) for the 2026-27 school year.
This program is designed for high school students who are interested in their community, government, and making a difference. Members of the council will have the chance to share their ideas and perspectives on important issues with Congresswoman DelBene and her team.
As a member of the Youth Advisory Council, students will:
Meet with and learn from Congresswoman DelBene, her staff, and/or community leaders.
Discuss current events, government policies and community issues with the Congresswoman, her staff and other members of the council.
Help create recommendations and ideas to share with Congresswoman DelBene.
Gain a better understanding of how a Congressional office works.
The Youth Advisory Council will include 10 volunteer high school students, serving a one-year term during the school year, from September through May. There will be no meeting in December because of the holiday break. Meetings will take place once a month and will alternate between in-person and hybrid formats. Meetings will be led by the Congresswoman’s staff, and exact meeting dates will be shared after members are selected. Meetings are expected to run from 4-5:30 pm, unless otherwise noted.
All current high school students living in Washington’s First Congressional District (WA-01) are welcome to apply and eligible to serve on the Youth Advisory Council. Applications will be open from May 21, 2026 through July 3, 2026. Interviews will be tentatively scheduled for the weeks of July 13 and July 24, 2026 via Zoom. Selected applicants will be notified the week of July 29.
