Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. While the causes of Type 1 diabetes are not fully understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers play a role.

Couldn't be more thankful that Dr Greenbaum, world leader in research of Type 1 Diabetes, gets up and goes to work. Every days work for her is a day closer to a better life for Type 1's

Dr. Cara Greenbaum says there is a "crying need" to find a way to help people with type 1 diabetes and she is working at the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason to do just that.
