The triangular 'Hotel Seattle' building was built in 1890 and served as a key element of Pioneer Square's aesthetic giving it an incredible sense of place. It was bulldozed in 1961 as part of an urban renewal scheme (which intended to demolish all of Pioneer Square) and was replaced with a parking garage. The outcry from the destruction of the 'Hotel Seattle' building led to the preservation and renovation of beautiful Pioneer Square.

The monumental U.S National Bank building designed by A.E Doyle built in 1917 in Portland and doubled in size in 1925. For 99 years it has remained in use as a bank first by the US National Bank of Portland which was later absorbed by US Bancorp.
