Why did I choose a ginkgo leaf as our new logo?

Ginkgo symbolizes resilience, longevity, and quiet strength.

As one of the oldest living tree species on earth, and famously known for surviving the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, it has become a powerful emblem of endurance and renewal after hardship.

Its fan-shaped leaf, often split into two gentle lobes, also represents balance and harmony—strength paired with grace, survival without losing softness.

Because of this, the ginkgo is often chosen as a symbol of hope, healing, and the ability to withstand life’s storms while continuing to grow.

How does this resonate with women’s Jiu Jitsu?

It represents resilience, longevity, and strength that doesn’t need to be loud to be unbreakable.

Just as the ginkgo survived devastation and continued to grow, women who step onto the mats often carry their own battles and choose growth anyway.

The leaf’s balanced, split shape mirrors Jiu Jitsu itself: softness and pressure, patience and power, technique over force.

Women’s Jiu Jitsu is not about overpowering—it’s about enduring, adapting, and thriving over time.

Like the ginkgo, it stands for quiet strength, community roots, and the kind of resilience that deepens with every season.

Over the last three years, we’ve built a training group for women centered on skill and community.

Our ladies have gotten stronger, physically and spiritually, through these classes.

We focus on technique and conditioning, but every girl and woman who steps on these mats know (we hope) that we want them to really enjoy learning jiu jitsu.

This is a space where we support one another, challenge one another and grow together, and we have a great time doing it.

If you’re in Kirkland, Wash., and would like to join us, send us a message or schedule a trial class on our website.

Thank you to everyone who has trained with us over the last 3 years — the energy has been incredible.

Let’s grow this community to more than 100 women!
