This Memorial Day, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office proudly honors the brave men and women who served and sacrificed for our country.

Today, we especially recognize two Korean War veterans whose courage and dedication represent the very best of our nation. Both veterans were recognized during Tri-Community Memorial Day Parade and Program held in Kipton in collaboration with Camden and Henrietta Townships.

George Washington Smith, 94, faithfully served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He is remembered for his courage, sacrifice, love for his family, and the example of hard work and dedication he demonstrated throughout his life.

We also honor Walter Warner, who served five years in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. After suffering serious wounds during his service, he was honorably discharged. Mr. Warner recently celebrated his 95th birthday, and we thank him for his sacrifice and commitment to our country.

On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember all those who served, sacrificed, and defended the freedoms we enjoy every day.

From all of us at the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, thank you to our veterans and the families who stand beside them. We will never forget.

Thank you to everyone who came out today. We had such an amazing turnout that we ran out of cake for the first time in 56 years and we couldn’t be more grateful to each and everyone who attends or participates in whatever way.

This truly is the best community ❤️🤍💙

We pray you each have a blessed year and we can’t wait to host your parade again in 2027.

📢 🛑 Due to the amount of rain we’ve received, parking behind the softball fields will be 4x4 or all-wheel drive vehicles only.

The Kipton church parking lot is available for all other vehicles. 🚗 🚙
