On Memorial Day, it is most fitting to honor our lodge Brothers who are no longer with us. Additionally, several served their country in the Armed Services. One was a tail gunner in the B-17 bomber during WWII. This photograph from 1964 was taken in Kinross during the 100-year anniversary celebration as a lodge. Grand Master Hoyt Woody attended. Some of these Brothers also lived to see the lodge turn 150 years in 2013. These men were our mentors and kept us motivated and always told the best stories. We honor you on Memorial Day.

Farmers Lodge presented five scholarships to four deserving English Valleys High School students at Class Night on May 12, 2026. Retired EV Schools Superintendent and lodge member Alan Jensen made the presentations. We presented $7,000 in scholarships. The lodge brothers came up with $3,500 this year, and the Grand Lodge matched with an additional $1,000. Additionally, one of the recipients was one of only ten students in Iowa to receive the $2,500 Mark Earl and Esther Ruth Spencer Technical scholarship, which provides financial assistance to graduating seniors from Iowa public high schools who plan to pursue a technical or trade-related program at an accredited Iowa community college. A big thanks to the Brothers of Farmers Lodge No 168 and the Grand Lodge of Iowa! Congratulations Seniors!

The brothers of Farmers Lodge volunteered for the annual Courage Ride of the UI Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center on Saturday, August 9th. This is the 17th year the lodge has staffed the rest stop at North English and served lunch, treats and watermelon to the riders. A great bonding experience and a chance to meet riders from all over the state. The ride is the annual fundraiser for research and the official registry for Sarcoma cancers around the world, allowing doctors and researchers to compare treatments and successful protocols.

Our hearts are heavy at the loss of our Brother Gerald Rodby, immediate Past Master and faithful member, who laid down his working tools on April 15, 2025. Gerald participated in nearly every lodge meeting, Hawkeye Study, degree work, annual scholarships and all of our community service events. He was just recently presented with his Past Master plaque for 2023 and 2024 in March 2025. Fly high, Brother. Our deepest sympathy to Linda and family.
