Celebrating Women’s History Month

Emily Porter Kline (1920-2012), a 45-year Kinnelon resident, was a member of the WASPs, Women Air Force Service Pilots, the first female pilots in U.S. military history. The WASP program supported the war effort from 1942 to 1944, logging in a total of 60-million miles during World War II and were stationed at 120 airbases across the United States. These women flew over 78 different types of aircraft domestically to free male pilots for World War II combat. They performed a variety of missions which included towing targets for live gun practice, testing aircraft and training other pilots. Of the 25,000 program applicants, 1,830 were accepted and 1,074 completed the program. In 1977, thirty-three years after the WASP program ended, members were given veteran status for serving in World War II. In 2009 the Women Air Force Service Pilots were award the Congressional Gold Metal.

Happy Anniversary to Tom Kline from all of the Directors of Kinnelon Heritage for your 55 continuous years of selfless restoration of St. Hubert's Chapel. The entire American Decorative Arts Community as well as all the residents of Kinnelon owe you a huge debt of gratitude for saving one of Louis Comfort Tiffany's earliest complete ecclesiastical commissions, under his Tiffany Glass Company. It would never have survived without your early intervention, foresight and perseverance. Again, THANK YOU TOM KLINE ! You are Kinnelon New Jerseys historical savior and treasure. Thank you for all your stories and articles of our town and your encyclopedic knowledge and pictures that you share as well, preserving out towns history as well for generations to come.
