Getting stuck in the mud won't stop us from seeing the Buffalo! πŸŒ±πŸ¦¬β˜€

The Indian Nations Conservation Alliance, or INCA, visited us last week. We got stuck once in the spring mud but eventually made out to see the new Buffalo babies.

Thanks to Allison Sage for speaking to us about Horse Culture on the Wind River!

Trust responsibility and Buffalo as Food Sovereignty are intertwined. πŸ¦¬πŸ“πŸ₯—

For the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho peoples, Buffalo have been central to life for thousands of years.

They were not simply a food source β€” their bodies provided clothing, tools, and materials woven into nearly every aspect of daily existence. This relationship has been shaped by generations of knowledge about how to hunt, harvest, and honor what the Buffalo offers.

Our mission to restore Buffalo to the Wind River landscape is, at its foundation, an act of food sovereignty. Returning Buffalo to the land means restoring access to a traditional food source that is hunted and distributed directly to community members on Tribal lands.

Food sovereignty is inseparable from a broader strife for self-determination β€” and from a set of legal obligations the federal government has long been bound to uphold.

Wind River Cares Behavioral Health visited us this week. πŸ¦¬β˜€πŸ™‚

For the last few months we have been working with their Strengthening Generations group to support programing for young Native women! We have sponsored making concho belts and breast plates.

Pam Duran, our Associate Director, spoke to the group about what we've been working on and the importance of passing down cultural knowledge to younger generations.
