Helping Oppressed People Everywhere HOPE's purpose is to demonstrate genuine love and care in serving disadvantaged children and families

HOPE is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2019. Our purpose is to demonstrate genuine love and care in serving at-risk children and families by meeting short- and long-term needs while providing sustainable interventions. To accomplish this, HOPE partners with established local organizations embedded in the communities they support, selecting partners that have built trust and rapport in their localities through personal relationships, dependable service, and longstanding, successful programs. Our goal is to partner with and invest in these local organizations already doing effective work, thereby extending their reach and resources. HOPE currently has projects in Romania, South Africa, and southwest Virginia.

During their very first visit for many to an animal farm this week, students were able to see firsthand where some of their favorite foods originate. Seeing up close how milk is made helps them gain an understanding of farming practices, and develops gratitude for nutritious food. When students learn where their food comes from in an interactive and memorable way, it can improve health behaviors and turns abstract science concepts into tangible experiences.

This week, students visited an animal farm that complemented what they are learning in school. This educational trip to the countryside was enriching and revitalizing. It was the first trip to a farm for many. They enjoyed the fresh air and beautiful weather, ate a picnic lunch, and had time to play and be active.

The students gathered eagerly to hear a devotion on Noah's Ark. Being surrounded by God's creatures made the age-old bible story that much more meaningful.

Petting soft, furry farm animals and feeding them carrots provides a rich, multisensory experience. While the children may simply be having fun, these interactions also foster empathy and compassion while reinforcing lessons from the classroom.

HOPE & Project Ruth program participants ventured out recently! 36 expectant 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders rode along the country roads on a scenic field trip. These trips are especially momentous for the students, because many of them have not yet had the opportunity to travel outside of their own neighborhoods. Real Stories of HOPE: Romanian Edition

Last week, we met 2nd grader Catalina. This week, we meet her 5th grade sister Lavinia and their grandmother Rhoda.

Catalina and Lavinia attend Ruth School and are being raised by their grandparents. Their family circumstances have presented challenges, but through Ruth School, they have found stability, encouragement, and support as they continue their education.

Their grandfather isn’t able to work, and Rhoda collects bottles to recycle to gather a small income for the household. Their limited resources make it difficult to meet even basic needs.

Recognizing the family’s vulnerability, the girls were placed on a priority support list. When there is surplus food from the daily school lunch program, the girls are able to take food home to share with their grandparents.

We have also provided essential groceries to help meet their nutritional needs and supplement limited household food resources.

Looking back at The Duduza Care Centre Hospice Fun Run reminds us that together we can go far. We joined with our South African friends during our Garden Trip 2026. The annual run supports hospice and palliative care services, while encouraging community and wellness.

Real Stories of HOPE: Romania

Meet Catalina.

Catalina is a 2nd grader at the Ruth School in Romania. Her family is on a very limited income, so frames and lenses were out of reach. Our Emergency Fund provided Catalina with prescription glasses, allowing her to see more clearly, instantly impacting her schoolwork. Providing education isn’t always about making the right marks. Sometimes it’s improving the circumstances in which a child is able to learn. Partner with us today, and you can make a difference in the lives of students like Catalina.
