A great course for our older 4-H members who might be interested.

The Introduction to Wildlife Rehabilitation is a 2-day course consisting of mainly lecture and ending in a hands-on lab (wild cadavers) and open book exam. It fulfills the requirement for those pursuing a Level 1 (Apprentice) Wildlife Rehabilitation permit in the state. In Rhode Island, licensing is required to work hands on with native wild species in both rehabilitation facilities/hospitals (e.g. as an animal care volunteer) or to become an at home wildlife rehabilitator.

This class is not restricted to only those pursuing licensing or volunteer positions but is open to anyone interested in learning more about wildlife and rehabilitation! For those interested in pursuing licensing, further steps are needed following passing of this course including passing an open-notes exam with RIDEM as well as securing both a sponsorship from an active level 2 wildlife rehabilitator and veterinary letter of support. The Wildlife Clinic of Rhode Island aids in this process for those partnering with our organization either as an in-clinic volunteer/intern or as one of our at-home wildlife rehabilitators.

Congratulations to our 4-H sheep team member Oliver on a great weekend at Big E. Oliver was overall junior showman and won grand with both of his sheep! He also made a delicious lamb dish with his friends from CT and competed in quiz bowl.

Congratulations to our dairy 4-H team this year. They worked hard and conquered the Big E! We are proud of all of you! The members competed in grilled cheese, milkshake, clipping, showmanship, judging, and breed classes.

We have Demo Kits available to clubs and members if anyone is interested.

Mr. Lifty - this is a table-top demo of a wooden person lifting a box. It demonstrates how improper lifting techniques of heavy items can strain and injure your back.

VR tractor safety - this demo utilizes Meta Virtual Reality goggles and a website to walk participants through the various safety points/hazards when working around tractors.

Celebrated 4-H and FFA Day at The Big E by presenting three students with the Ruby Morris 4-H Scholarship! 🍀

Erin Judd, Tahlia Watson and Emma Roeben earned their scholarships through a commitment to their 4-H clubs within their home states as well as ESE's agricultural programming.

Rhode Island 4-H made waves at the Big E this weekend! Olivia Myers was overall showman and her Guernsey cow was reserve supreme of the show! We are so happy for Olivia!

Congratulations to the 4-H Dairy Cattle Show’s Champion Overall Showman, Olivia Myers, RI. The Reserve Champion Showman is Mackenzie Ennis, CT. Honorable Mention goes to Madelyn Poitras, MA, and Taryn Burns, VT. The competition was judged by Kaylah Gulley, NY, and Michael Yoder, PA.
