Did you know that community service acts as a powerful protective factor against substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health issues? It mitigates risks by fostering a sense of purpose, expanding social support networks, and reducing isolation. Engaging in community work also boosts self-esteem and builds healthy coping mechanisms. Last week our Timberlane High School Youth in Action students partnered with the New Hampshire Department of Liquor Enforcement for Project Reward and Remind!

Before heading out into the community, students participated in an Age Assessment Panel. The panel helps ensure that youth involved in compliance operations look their actual age before participating. A big thank you to the community members who volunteered their time to participate in the panel and support this important prevention effort.

Students then visited local businesses to thank clerks and stores for helping keep youth safe by refusing sales of to***co and v**e products to underage customers. Compliant businesses received certificates and the clerks received gift cards as a small thank you for their commitment to prevention and community safety.

Programs like this give students meaningful opportunities to be involved in prevention work while building positive relationships with community partners. After a successful day, students wrapped things up with a well-earned meal together!

Thank you to our Timberlane Youth in Action students, the New Hampshire Department of Liquor Enforcement, and all of the local businesses helping create a healthier and safer community for youth! ***coprevention NH Department of Health and Human Services NH State Liquor Enforcement Timberlane Regional High School South Central NH Public Health Network

Law enforcement and other first responders do more prevention than you might think; law enforcement doesn’t just respond to emergencies!

First responders often partner with public health, prevention professionals, and schools to create a community centered around health and well-being for all, including school prevention education events, DEA Drug Take Back days, and more.

Drug Take Back Days can’t happen without our law enforcement partners! For more information on DEA Drug Take Back Days, visit https://www.dea.gov/takebackday. To start planning your own Drug Take Back Day event for October, contact your local police department to see how you can help.
