Attention young artists! The Dutchess County Department of Health is teaming up with Dutchess Boces and The Art Effect for the "Escape the V**e" art contest, inviting Dutchess County students ages 14–18 to create original artwork with a strong anti-vaping message.

Selected pieces will be featured on social media and featured in local spaces and the first-place winner will earn a paid internship to produce a professional video ad!

Remember when?! Today marks 22 years of the New York’s Clean Indoor Air Act.

Here’s a look back on news coverage from that time. New York State has make great progress in to***co control…however there is still so much work to do to protect the generations to come.

On July 24, 2003, smoking was banned in pretty much all indoor public places in New York state, including bars and restaurants. The controversial law had many divided, and left smokers especially upset.

If you’re near the Sullivan County, NY Government building in Monticello in the next two weeks, stop by to see this incredible “Airing Big Tobaco’s Dirty Laundry” display created by the Sullivan 180 Warrior Teens youth! The group worked on these shirts in April and then put them on display last month for a World No To***co Day event in Hurleyville. You can read messages of why youth don’t want to be a replacement for the big to***co companies and many facts and stats on the predatory practices of big to***co!

Our Reality Check group from Kingston City School District had a fantastic day at yesterday’s MARO Region Youth Summit in NYC!

The youth participated in trainings learning key skills to prepare them to talk with and get to know elected officials and on how our local and state governments work.

We ended the day by visiting Madame Tussauds New York wax museum. On the way we took in the sights, but also made observations on to***co retailer density and to***co liter. While at the museum the youth participated in a scavenger hunt connected to our smoke free movies initiative.

All in all a really great day with our peers at POWR Against To***co, To***co Action Coalition of Long Island and NYC Smoke-Free at Public Health Solutions.

The 4th Annual Sullivan County MLK Jr. Day of Service Youth Summit was fantastic! Inspiring and motivating, it was great to see so many young people ready to create positive change for themselves and their community!

John Johnson was a phenomenal keynote speaker, really connecting with the youth and making them think! It was a honor to have elected officials participate in the day like Amanda Ward from Sullivan County, NY Government and Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado.
