🚨 Help a Rise Up Kingston Co-Founder land safely 🏡

This is being organized by friends of a beloved activist, Lisa R, who is being displaced once again. We are asking for funds to cover getting a new apartment as well as transportation back to Kingston and mutual aid work.

This move was forced by gentrification, a system that pushes out working-class people and directly impacted organizers. While the displacement is real, the work does not stop.

Relocating to the state capital puts this activist closer to decision-makers shaping housing justice, decarceration, and human rights across New York.

Kingston remains home, and she will continue showing up for our community while fighting for policies that protect all NYers from displacement and state violence.

LOUDER CALL FOR MUTUAL AID 📣 we know that there's a LOT of cash flowing through Kingston... but it always seems to miss us 🤔😮‍💨 help us help Tomicia Spencer, our dear community member and friend!

🏠 Tomicia and her husband are moving in with her mother but the floor needs to be redone. The total cost for labor and materials will be $1,700. Her lease is up at the end of April and the work is starting soon. Thank you for anything you can contribute to Tomicia! If you don't know her, Tomicia is a beloved community member. She's the host of Meditation Mondayz the podcast , is a Reiki master, and works as Rise Up Kingston's Community Empowerer.

😺 We're also searching for someone who would be interested in a long-term foster for Tomicia's cat, Roo. Her mother is allergic so the kitty can't come with her. Tomicia doesn't want Roo to go back to the shelter.

TONIGHT 📣 5:30PM AT CITY HALL, OR SUBMIT COMMENT

Via : Tonight's 5:30pm Public Hearing on the proposed amendments to increase affordability in Affordable Housing Section 405.19, in the City of Kingston Zoning Code will also be held on Zoom.

The proposed amendments to our zoning code would update the thresholds for determining "affordable housing units" and "workforce housing units" for new construction and major renovations. The change will reduce the affordability thresholds from 80% and 120% of the area median income (AMI) of Kingston Metropolitan Area/Ulster County to 50% and 80% of AMI.
These amendments were proposed as rents at 80% AMI are above Market Rate Rents.

Written Public Comments can be sent to the City Clerk at [email protected] or dropped off at City Hall to the Clerk's Office or left in the drop box located at the side door entrance of City Hall. Written Public Comment will be received until 1:00 pm, Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
