About raíces
Informed by ancient techniques and tied to generations of indigenous makers, Verónica Martínez Cruz creates work that is both timeless and rooted in the socio-political moment. “raíces is an installation that combines tension and tenderness: it speaks to the pain of being singled out and persecuted, but also to the strength of those who cross borders simply to exist. To take root is to survive with beauty; it is to sow the seeds of the future with what we have carried in our hearts. And even if the world wants to erase it, here the root persists: it sprouts.” - Verónica Martínez Cruz ixhua 🤎

About Drawing On Geometry
“The use of embroidery situates the work within a long lineage of hand-based practices traditionally understood as “women’s work.” These forms of craft, rooted in proletarian labor, link contemporary abstraction to historical forms of making through generations and across cultures. Through this material and method, I explore how imagery can function as a site of memory, meditation, and continuity—where ancient visual structures meet present-day perception.” - Lara Giordano Lara Giordano (full blog continued @ link in bio)
