Today's visitor brought some much-needed sunshine to our office on a rainy Friday. Shawn, a local 7th grader, selected Catholic Charities to be the beneficiary of his National Junior Honor Society community service project. He prepared and donated 20 complete meals in a bag. Each bag has all the fixings to make a meal for four people and can be prepared using just a microwave. He included a can opener with each bag too! These meals are great for our clients who are living in motels or shelters or otherwise lack access to a full kitchen. Thank you Shawn!

It's that time of year when our food pantry shelves are growing bare and donations have slowed down, but we know that in just a month demand at our pantries will surge when school gets out and kids are home for summer vacation. Help us get ready by stocking our shelves with kid-friendly foods. Items like cereal, oatmeal, pasta, soups, mac and cheese, and pb & j are popular essentials when students are home from school. To make a donation, contact [email protected] / 845-294-5124 x1925, drop off at the Catholic Charities pantry near you - Newburgh (280 Broadway), Monticello (396 Broadway), or Kingston (6 Adams St.), or make a donation online at www.cccsos.org/donate-now, and we'll be happy to do the shopping for you.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan & Ulster has announced the postponement of its Kingston Pop-Up Food Pantry originally scheduled for Monday, May 12.

A new date and location for a Pop-Up Pantry in Kingston will be announced as soon as it is scheduled.

People in need of food assistance in Ulster County should contact the Catholic Charities office in Kingston for more information. Catholic Charities’ permanent food pantry is located at 6 Adams Street, Kingston, and is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 3 pm. The pantry can be reached at 845-340-9170.

Look at our garden grow! Thanks to generous funding from New York State and City of Kingston, we received a Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant to rebuild and expand the food pantry garden at Catholic Charities Ulster Community Center at 6 Adams Street in Kingston. We recently had a visit from Kristin Kessler (right) from the City of Kingston's Department of Health and Wellness, to check out all of our hard work. She was pleased with our progress and how well things are coming along. By this summer, we hope to be sharing fresh produce from our own garden with food pantry guests.

Yesterday, our CEO, Shannon Kelly, and colleague, Jasmin Rivera, participated in RECAP's Challenge in the Midst of Poverty conference hosted at Orange County Community College - SUNY Orange. We were grateful to be part of an important conversation regarding poverty and housing insecurity and collaborate for change.

The keynote speaker, Joe Roberts, was truly inspirational. He spoke about his journey from homelessness to CEO, which included a 5,000+ walk across Canada to bring attention to issues of poverty and housing insecurity. He walked pushing a shopping cart, a recognizable symbol of something used by so many of our unhoused neighbors. Jasmin (far left) and Shannon (left) were able to meet Joe and grab a picture with RECAP COO Michele McKeon (right). Great job, RECAP!
