Today mom and I went to a few businesses to try to get money for the basketball team. This team is for kids that don't have the money for to play on the other travel teams. The last place we went to the dude was extremely defeating in the fact he said our players need to get jobs and nothing should be given for free to them. He had to work when he was there age and a single mother and theirs no reason these kids can't do it. Then mom said something about keeping them busy and not running the streets and how one player needs shoes because he has rips in his and he cannot afford to get new ones. He said this child needs to work for those shoes and there is no one that should hand this stuff out for free that you need to save yourself before even think about helping others and that he needed to make sure he can pay his employees. Then when we were leaving he was like hey ugh I can get yall a gift card to auction off. Did I mention he's a body builder has 7 kids who are doctors, lawyers, and engineers. He also is a county officer and had his service pew pew on him as well as his badge.
This worries me. It worries me because these kids want to play ball so badly and money is the only thing stopping them. Soon practices can't be paid for or tournament fees. And all this guy could say is they need to get a job! We are teaching these kids leadership skills, responsibility, respect, sportsmanship, and so much more! They should be allowed to be kids for a few more years before getting a boss that is going to break them down and make them feel like two cents. I implore you to come out to a practice or a tournament and see how much fun they are having because for 2 hours they don't have to think about their home lives. Shoot me a message if you'd like to watch them practice or a tournament. If you'd like to donate send me a message. These kids are worth my time and effort, they always will be.
Mom and I stopped at that point, the players are gonna go and let's see if they can look them in the eye and say no or go get a job.
