So much talent on one stage! Last week's fundraiser with The Key West Band did not disappoint! The night included special performances by Josh L Shilling , Hoppie Vaughan, and Allan Walker ...plus a very special duet rendition of "Please come to Boston" with vocals by Hoppie and Michael Armstrong. See you all next year!!!!

Tomorrow on the RadioAlabama & Rocket City Broadcasting Sunday broadcast of The Mark White Show, I’ll welcome neuroscientist and cochlear implant pioneer Dr. Michael Merzenich for a remarkable conversation about how the brain learns to hear.

Dr. Merzenich and his team helped establish the scientific foundation for modern multichannel cochlear implants, contributing to technology now used by more than one million people worldwide. His work helped make it possible for children and adults with severe or profound hearing loss to access sound and spoken communication.

During our conversation, he remembers patients who returned to playing music, conducting business over the telephone, and hearing the voices of people they loved. Those experiences reveal the human impact behind decades of research, persistence, and international cooperation.

What also stood out was his insistence on sharing the credit. As one of five pioneers recognized with the 2026 Richard N. Merkin Prize in Biomedical Technology, Dr. Merzenich made it clear that this achievement belonged to the many people who worked together to make it possible.

Yesterday we attended the dedication for the Emma Kate Disability Center at East Tennessee State University. Emma Kate is an amazing young woman with an unparalleled determination to help others achieve their full potential. If the name sounds familiar it should. Emma was the first camper to participate in our Camp H.E.A.R. program, and now serves as our Advocacy Coordinator. We are incredibly blessed to have her be such a big part of our Waiting to Hear family. Her desire to give back goes far beyond her role with us. Keep changing lives, Emma. We're proud of you!
