The Tennessee state Legislature passed a bill Thursday that would expand the right to use deadly force to include property protection, easing a fear long held by gun owners.

The legislation, which would allow citizens to use deadly force to prevent arson, burglary, animal cruelty and robbery in certain situations, passed on party-line votes in the Republican-dominated Tennessee House of Representatives and Tennessee state Senate. Supporters of the legislation argued that law-abiding citizens should be allowed to protect their life’s work, Nashville-area TV station WKRN reported.

New Details: Virginia State Police confirmed on Thursday that it is investigating the Weber City Police Department on allegations of fraudulent time sheets.

The Weber City, Virginia police department is currently unstaffed following a town council decision to terminate the town's remaining two officers, including the Chief. Previously, two officers were relieved of duty due to lacking POST certification, which made it impossible for them to perform their duties without the presence of a certified officer. Another officer resigned to join the Scott County Sheriff's Office. According to local sources, the Virginia State Police are investigating an unspecified matter within the department. Until new officers are appointed, the town will receive coverage from the Virginia State Police and the county sheriff's office.
